That's it, I'm jealous...
Did anybody notice that Alain Johaness (Queens of the Stone Age and Them Crooked Vultures and soon solo album) and Dave Grohl played with Pearl Jam??? Looks awesome!!!

You guys had an awesome line up for that week-end...

We're right into the summer festival here in Québec City (Canada) and I can say there's music for everyone, but damn... having Pearl Jam, Them Crooked Vultures, Arcade Fire and well, I don't listen to their new stuff, but still, Alice in Chains with McCready playing with them as someone noticed...
IT'S JUST SO FUCKING GREAT...
Hope you guys enjoyed!!!

Bande de chanceux...
Bonne journée!

Absolutely! That's what i mean! You just have to be happy to see them live! And again, I think it was amazing!

Rearviewmirror = awesome show!
Will remain in my memory as a very special night since after Corduroy Eddie threw a pick very far out to the left side of the crowd, like 15 or 20th row. It fell down ca. one meter next to me and no one else saw it until I started to stare at the floor. Couldn't find it and eventually let it be..until small town, my eye always peering to the floor and suddenly - TA-DA - there it was, all alone in between all those smelly feet. Haha, so happy! :D

Well Fred, I had the same feeling about this show:
bad sound: too loud, too rocky (like they had to proof themselves as experienced rockers) and too short.
Eddie was tired indeed, his voice was not as sharp and fresh as usual. This was my 4th PJ show in 15 years and I was disapointed too at the end. I have a lot of official bootlegs.
Stone, Matt and Jeff were looking sharp, like they were in a good mood. And Mike, he seemed a little sad to me. Boom boom Gaspar was like he always seems to be: on a wave :-)
BOOOOOOOM!!!

Pearl Jam is still one of the best LIVE bands of the world, sorry the best live band of the world- but this time 'fatigue' was king. Which I totally understand. Starting a show at 11:00 PM isn't the same as starting a show at 8:00 PM, the hot weather, the boose :-), the atmosphere, the friends backstage, the fact that is was the 4th of July :-)...

I like them better when they don't play at rockfestivals
(this was my first Rock festival (with Pearl Jam) in 12 years).

Just bought the cd (and mp3) and it sounds better :-)

Jooneman from Belgium.

True, I have great pictures of that: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=13474594&id=657875161

Josh Homme had joined on stage in 2007 for the finale with Baba O'reilly and sang a couple of lines... I have wished they would play Baba O'reilly on sunday for a finale as well !

After 4 tiring days at Werchter (1st time there), I was very excited to see my favorite band ever and to show them live to my girlfriend. It was the third time I've seen them and the previous concerts (Zurich and Bern) were great and produced a lot of emotion. This time, like a lot of the fans who commented the Werchter concert, I must admit I was a little bit disappointed. Well first of all I should say that I would not go back to Werchter Rock Festival, even though it's very well organized. It's way too big and this crowd tired a lot. Plus most of the people there don't really seem to go for the music. Well I was especially disappointed by the sound (we were quite close to the stage) which seemed to be much better when we listened to concerts from far away. All we could mainly hear was the drums and the bass guitar. Then Eddie seemed a little bit tired (which is very human), like us and the 80'000 others. Then the setlist was good but very very rock. In the end I regret not to have chosen to go to the gig in Berlin with Ben Harper opening ! It's the last time I chose to see my favourite group in a festival, especially one that big. But I would still like to thank Pearl Jam for the performance and just for being there at the same time as us. Keep On Rockin' In The Free World ! Fred, Switzerland

I completely agree with you, anisb. That really sums up my impressions very well.

It was a great show full of energy, but it being the 1st time I see them live, and having heard so many awesome stories about their shows, I probably had too high expectations.

On the other hand 1h30 was really short especially if you compare it to the closing acts of the previous days.

The real bonus though, and I'm surprised nobody mentioned it yet (maybe I just missed it): the finale with Alain Johannes and Dave Grohl ! I saw Homme peeking from backstage. I wish he had joined them too :)

All in all a great moment that I won't forget soon.

good show in werchter, short but good, best gig of the whole festival, saw them already 11 times.
atmosphere in concerthall much better than on festival.

just happy saw them again.

To those moaning...
What a bunch of ungrateful mmm creatures.

You should just be happy to be there and have the opportunity to see them live, end of...

i couldnt agree more!!

Public Image is an amazing tune! But being at a concert is also about feeling part of the show. Public Image is not a song you can relate to immediatly. It takes a few listens at the very least to 'get it'.

All i'm saying is a great show is more than just about great music. It's about having a crowd buzzing and feeling part of the show. From where i was standing i could not feel that!

The other point i was making is that Festivals are very different to PJ gigs. Wheras this setlist could create a real buzz amongst hard core PJ fans of which i am it would not attract the same buzz from a festival crowd which is dominated by people who like PJ but may not be hard core fans which is why I'm suggesting that the crowd was not being blown away in a manner i've seen at all of the previous PJ gigs i've been to.

The lack of enthusiasme in the crowd spoilt the gig for me.

I do not agree with all the complains about the setlist. Yesterday was my 14th PJ show and it was the best opening song I've ever heard. Public Image, I know the song since the 80's. I heard PJ play it for the first time during the sound-check in Berlin and later during the show. But to play it as the opening song is something else.

Listen to the sound of that bass guitar in the first seconds of the song. This is pure power. I was blown away completely. The intensity of the singing by Eddie. What a wonderfull version of this song.

And listen to the lyrics of this song:
John Lydon is singing about misinterpretations and expectations that don't come true.
About the truth that is made by ourselves.

So, the song was perfectly chosen by Eddie and he hits the nail dead straight on its head ;)

I can't wait to hear the bootlegs. Thanks PJ

I understand, you are waiting for more ... Poland was also a festival, but the zero day and people were fresh, concert was excellent, everyone enjoyed the band, 50,000 people sang, danced, jumping .... it was wonderful. I was the day before in Berlin, it was on day 10 years after the tragedy at Roskilde, end of the gig was emotional, the guys share their feelings, Eddie was crying, then played Come Back and then Alive ..... a lot of people have been emotion, I was crying too, it was powerful and beautiful at the same time.
Best band ever, since 1996 I was on their 6 concerts, I wish to see them again next year. Have a good days. Mart.

This was my third PJ show, I saw them first in Toronto in 2006, 2h30 and 3 encores and an ACC full of pearl jam hardcore fans... the second was Werchter in 2007 and yesterday !

I think the show was great, with Them crooked Vultures they definitely were the best act of the festival... They played some energy songs at a 100% and it was a lot of fun, Just breathe was beautiful, and so was given to fly and Alive...

Now you gotta face it, it is always better to see Pearl Jam as a single concert date with all their fans filling the air with their energy... But I don't think it's true that the crowd was dead yesterday, they were singing, clapping and having fun !

The big disappointment however was the shortened playing time, I was excited to know that they would play 2 hours, but they played only 1h30...

Come on people!
Maybe i am easy to please, but i stood 7th row and i found the whole gig amazing! What's better than hearing songs they rarely play! I think that's better than alone singalongs!! I think it was magic! A lot of people would have loved to be there so don't complaine! Be glad u were there!
Now i am going to celebrate my birthday!
Take care
Thnx again PJ!!

I'm surprised by Beely's comments.

"It's a festival for Christ's sake".

So you're clearly suggesting that we should expect less at a festival than at a PJ gig. I cannot disagree more.

PJ have had 1 gig in Belgium in its entire history.

Most fans cannot afford to travel abroad to see them. The only time they've got to see the band was at Werchter this year and back in 2007. Why should they expect to see a lesser show the those who have been able to see PJ gigs outside of festivals. Playing at a festival doesn't mean you can put on a lesser show.

In fact i'm sure Ed would not for 1 second think "i can put on a shittier show tonight because it's a festival". He would never treat fans that way NEVER. Ed Ved respects PJ fans like no other. He will always do what he believes will meet the expectations of the fans be it a PJ gig or a festival he will make no difference.

I just think yesterday they did not chose the right setlist or feel the crowd and understood what they were after.

Festivals are not normal gigs. They bring along a lot of fans who like the band but may not be hardcore fans and therefore the setlist should match the expectations of the public. I love every song that was played last night. But as important as the songs is the feeling and buz im getting from the crowd. I was positioned quite close to the stage. Before the band took to the stage everyone was really excited. A lot of those around me who i was chatting to had never seen the band before. I told them all to get ready for an amazing experience. Alas, a lot of the people around me told me they were dissapointed. I was disappointed because i could not feel the band was taking the crowd with them.

Why start the concert with a song 99% of the crowd have never heard of? Why not kick things off with a good strong PJ tune to get everybody excited? The concert only started with Evolution.

As i said in my earlier post PJ are the greatest. Love them for many different reasons...they're music just being one of them! These guys are real people a rare thing in rock n roll. Everyone one can relate to them. They're just normal blokes who like normal things and their art reflects this. But i also feel that as a fan i'm alowed to voice my opinions and let them know when i feel they haven't hit the heights.

Yesterday was my 10th concert. I've adored the previous 9 alas i could not say that about yesterday's gig.

I'm sure the band will not mind one little bit that I voice my opinion...indeed i'm sure they'll appreciate the constructive critiscm.

having said all of that PJ rock and for me are the classiest rock n roll band ever!

I think the problem of the show was that the audience wasn't good. They didn't appreciated the group. I found the gig very good.

I'm looking at the setlist...
What more do you want?!!?
It's a festival for christ's sake!

I fully agree with the comments of DF183255... the show last night in Werchter was totally disapointing.

It is the 5th time I saw them, and really, I could have never expected to be so disapointed by a PJ show, especially after the 4th first times which were just so great:

- 1h30 of show while announced 2h
- a choice of setlist more than questionnable (so many new and unknown songs, all in the same "hard sound")
- few to zero interaction with the audience, with a peak at the end where the left the stage in 5 seconds without any proper "goodbye"
All this combined with a very quiet audience, clearly not pure PJ fans, and clearly tired after 4 days of festival, sun and beers.
But PJ has normally this ability to adapt to the crowd, make them go crazy through the choice of songs, and the interaction with them... this was totally not the case.
It was like if the band was more focused on themselves than on the show, and wanted to impress their friends backstage (Alice in Chains, Them Crooked,...) by playing the most heavy sounds and songs possible. As a result, the more the show was going on, the more than band was disconnecting from the fans.
I fully understand that they were expecting more from the crowd... but the 10000 PJ fans there should not be held responsible for the 70000 non PJ fans who were standing there... PJ played this same festival 3 years ago, and they managed to bring the full audiance on their boat... while yesterday, they let them sink and sail away...

All in all... very disapointing... good that Alice in Chains was there earlier in the afternoon...

was in werchter and in arras,
Arras was nice and the setlist very french, since you understand that they (french people) are always glued to the first band album, its the same with otherer band, that's why Pj played all the very famous songs, for Werchter I think that PJ expected a better and a more wise crowd, but everybody was really tiered after 4 very hot days and also ver young kids around...Most of them werent born when I went to y first Werchter fetival ('85)
I really enjoyed both shows in front and i was happy to see Ben Harper and Dave taking good care of the BBQ.
Dont forget that they were playing very late both days and 2 shows in a row. For my part I consider that it was a 3 hours long show but cut in 2.

Here i am just emerging following my return from Werchter with very mixed feelings about the gig!

Firstly let me begin by stating the following: PJ are one of my drugs of choice. Best band in the world! Their music is truthful and hits emotions and nerves in me i didn't even no existed. I've travelled round the world to see the band and have always loved every show i've ever been to. Ed Ved in his choice of setlists always hits the nail dead straight on its head. He feels a crowd he knows what needs to be played to get the interction between band and fan going.

Yesterday for the 1st time ever i was dissapointed by the setlist and the interaction with the crowd. I just didn't feel it was happening! Maybe, it's just one of those things. Maybe i'm just used to absolute brilliance (I was at the PJ gig in 2003 at MSG which was immortalised on DVD....one of the most intense moments in my life ever!)and therefore feel dissapointed when the sky high standards the band sets are not met. I had close friends attending the gig some were watching PJ live for the 1st time. After everything i've told them about them they were left disappointed and that really saddened me.

so here were my complaints about yesterday:

the show was sceduald for 2 hours and only lasted 1 and half....strange
the setlist for me was wrong. 3/4 songs were not PJ songs or new PJ songs and completly unknown to the crowd (public image/arms aloft/of the earth). When a gig is only 1 1/2 hours long surely you should stick to the more sing a long tunes especially when the crowd is not really a full time PJ crowd but a festival one. I'm not saying their not great tunes. By all accounts i love them all and they would fit perfectly in a PJ gig....but at a festival where the fans are not so MAD about the band and not so knowledgable about their songs....i would have preffered that they stick to tunes the mass of the audiance could identify with. The people around me i felt got bored quite quickly. They never really got into the show. And as i said some friends of mine who were seeing them for the 1st time were disapinted as i was too.

I went to Hyde Park just 10 days ago!! That was on another level alas Werchter was not the same.

I guess there are days like that! Sometimes you just can't hit the absolute heights! PJ's heights are so high that maybe i'm just expecting too much of them.

so there you have it! PJ are the greatest they will always be the greatest. They tell a story that everyone should hear about and that i like many others relate to easily.

Let me finish off on a positive note! Never change who you are cause your music is simply amazing and the way you deliver it is second to none. The respect you guys command is unparraleld! you do it right!

Thanks for all the years of imeasurable pleasure you've provided and looking forward to seeing you on our shores here in Europe very soon!

Great show see from the fist row, a little short but with a fantastic energy from all the band...
Thank you for this unbelievable moment.

Great show yesterdag in Werchter !!
They started with the song Public Image (PIL, Johny Rotten song !)
Rearviewmirror was one of the best !
They were into it and so was the crowd !
Thanks.

What a show yesterday!
Thnx PJ for the best birthdaypresent!
I had a great time! Nice setlist and great view from 7th row!
