A dear friend of mine had passed away earlier that year in a car accident, and this concert had me in tears almost the whole time. Therapeutic and heart wrenching. I knew something had to have been going on with them as well.
The show was in honor of Jeff's friend who had recently passed away. For some reason I didn't get that until Man of the Hour, when I realized they were playing all their death songs. Backspacer hadn't been released yet, so hearing The Fixer, Got Some, and especially Supersonic was a real treat. The two Who songs were amazing. Best PJ show I'd been to since Vegas in 2000.
ed comes right out and the first thing he says "we've got a lot of emotion to get through tonight". from the get go it was obvious this wasn't going to be a "normal" show. and as more songs passed... his comments in dissident, sad, happy birthday right into come back, in hiding, man of the hour, love reign, the michael jackson speech into needle, smile.... the band wore their hearts on their sleeves. no it's not a balls to the wall rocker of a show- it wasn't meant to be. they told a story with that setlist. it is one of the more unique shows by them that i have seen, and i am glad i got to see it.
My first Pearl Jam show and one of the best concerts i've ever been to in my life. Got the bootleg and now get to close my eyes and remember that night with 20,000 of my best friends. Can't wait to see em again.
Great show... my favorite moments were: "Needle and the Damage Done", the two Who tunes ("Love, Reign O'er Me" & "The Real Me") "Come Back", and "Yellow Ledbetter" with McCready putting on the "Star Spangled Banner" tag. I was very close... side stage, Stone's side. Thanks 10Club.
This was my first PJ show and God willing it won't be my last. The sound was great and it really seemed like a magical night for sure. My favorite part of the show was when they played "Love Reign" but the whole show smoked. This is the best concert I have ever been to, thank you Pearl Jam! Any chance you could come to Detroit next time?
my first PJ concert as well, and while I was disappointed in no Black/Betterman (would like to see these in person even though some people are tired of them), the setlist was amazing. First time I ever heard Sad, and now it's one of my favorites.
