I will be forever greatful to PJ for adding a "jersey" date. I have 10c no senority but seats were great sect 20 row 18 had a great view of the stage. Crowd in my section was a bit lame but I had a great time! It's Pearl Jam!! Went to MSG in 2008 and it is mind blowing how different the two crowds are. Better Man that night ( I still get goosebumps thinking about it).
Amongst The Waves, Immortality and In Hiding, great trio. Sat next to the Father and Son that Eddie dedicated Just Breathe to. All I can say is WOW!!
Hey Actonsgirl, no problem with the screaming all night, it only pumps me up to hear other fans as excited as me! As for the Ed Ved vid on the amp, I would love it! e-Mail to me at: lsalthammer@yahoo.com
I also attended Friday at MSG. Highlights were "Hunger Strike" with Ben f/Band of Horses, "The Real Me", and the slow version of "Lukin". Wow. Was on McCready side this time, end of 8th row. But awesome thing was one of MSG's security guys hooked me up with a stage copy of the setlist!!! Gotta frame that puppy!
Randall's Island #1 still probably my fav show...although since I got front row to the bristow show this year..it might be a tie. It was definitely pouring that night...My friend and I had to drive back to boston in our underwear :)
The crowd was amazing....everyone sang every song together. I think the rain really bonded the band and the crowd.
I think the security there was probably the nicest i've ever "run into"...i did alot of crowd surfing that evening and each time i made it to the front the guards caught me nicely, applauded and told me that was awesome and to go back and do it again...maybe they didn't mind since i'm pretty little.
And what made the day even better was that Ben Harper opened...he was amazing!
Yes crowd was insane that night(had to be pulled out of the pit by a security guard right in front of eddie), lost my shirt and shoe that night and yes it poured, i remember because i had one bad wiper while driving home.
This was my 2nd show of four for the 2010 tour and 13th show overall.
Compared to MSG, the crowd was tame, however equal to the show I saw in Columbus, OH. I'm from Jersey, and the crowd will not go wild for Jersey Girl . . They just won't.
This was the best show (set list wise) I had ever seen (until MSG night 2). This sounds silly, but I loved the show for the songs they didn't play
no Corduroy, Given to Fly, Betterman, or Yellow Ledbetter and the show was better for it . . .
Highlights were
Of the girl - opener
Alone
Immortality
In Hiding
and the sequence from Supersonic to the WMA Daughter Jam was enough for me to die happy . .
topped off with You- Are - Whipping - AND an All Along the Watchtower Encore with Band of Horses made this the best show I'd ever been to (better than Jones Beach 2000, better than Philly 2nd night last year).
Although I am being redundant ....yeah the crowd was lame ... saw way to many people sitting down .... Does this affect a future pearl jam decision to come back to jersey? Perhaps they dont schedule a concert at prudential center next time around? I am simply asking..not making any type of opinion or statement....Compared to MSG I am in shock how different the crowds were. Despite that Pearl jam really rocked with little help from the crowd . Amazing show... How long do you think it will take for the bootleg to come out?
and come on erockk2121 no need to pour salt on old wounds .... not to mention i doubt the devils had any effect jersey PJ crowds .... Ignoring the fact that we only get 9,000 fans a game (yes I am one of those people with season tickets .....only time we sell out is because of the rangers or flyers coming to town - pathetic), about half of those 9,000 fans probably still think daneyko plays ...There were more flyer jerseys there than devil jerseys during the season ...terrible ha ha
Randalls 1 it rained - but it was a zen show. There was something really electric in the crowd and with the band that night - and it was the next show (I believe there were 2) that Eddie had the "vision" of them just playing until everyone went home and they had that epic Randall's set.
I was at the Randall's Island show in '96 and I don't remember it raining...all I remember is it was awesome..it was my first show and they played forever..they have never had a bad show, they never disappoint I always walk away loving them more!!!!
The show at The Garden last night was AMAZING and so were our seats. we had to pay a bit for them though cause I didn't get the 10c tix...That is my only gripe, Why the hell is it so hard to get those tix through 10c...Must be cause I am older and am not as fast as the young kids!!!!
This was an amazing show, but the crowd was a bit subdued. Eddie even said it himself after the first encore that he assumed "that you want us to keep playing" I was in Boston the night before and the crowd was going crazy from the time PJ left the stage until the time they returned. The crowd in Newark was just a bit quieter. still an awsome show! Thanks Pearl Jam!
Hey daughterofmine--
I was at the Newark show and agree that it was A LOT quieter than other PJ shows I've been to, like the awesome quarter of Spectrum shows in October. But I was still moshing in my own space and transporting myself elsewhere, anyway. And, the consummate professionals that PJ are, it didn't seem to impact the band's energy level one bit through the 30-song night. Honestly, there was so much pot in that place--waves of it clouding the air around me, it could have just been the crowd was completely stoned and catatonic. And I agree with you on enjoying them more now than in earlier years. They have such a richer, deeper song list to pull from and have really mastered the craft of being performers.
.... I was at that show!!!!! You didn't love it?? You're crazy! It didn't rain the whole time. Do you remember that the rain started right at the beginning of Black. As if God was taking the cues from the band. That is what I loved about that show. They started with Last Exit (I don't need to check set lists!) We were so close ... there were no seats. John Popper (sp) from Blues Traveler played the harmonica during Blues Traveler. Ha! I loved that show. That said, I guess I agree with you (on everything besides RI in '96) that I have never had a negative thing to say about any of there shows. All the best.
I am also suprised to hear people label the crowd as being lame in Newark. I had a blast, the band sounded awesome, they played a pretty sweet ass set, I sang and danced my heart out, so I guess I'm in the minority. I try not to pay attention to crowds anymore, I just focus in on having a good time and listening to some amazing live music! This was like my 15th PJ show and I can honestly say I never have a negative thing to speak about their shows anymore. There were times in the past where I might have been dissapointed, maybe once, at Randall's Island back in 96, the first show, it rained the whole time, but anyways, they are like a fine whine, better with age!! I met a 20 year old kid, on the train ride to "The Rock", who had seen them a handful of times already, it blew my mind, made me feel old and it reminded me of have special these guys are! Thank You Ten Club for the awesome hook up, once again!! Wish I kept my tickets for MSG! :-(
Laru88-- I have about a minute of video of Alive when Ed was right in front of us on the AMP. (PS- That kid wasn't my son, he and his dad were right next to me...but he was a trooper and am so jealous that he got a tambourine and guitar pick.) Have a blast at MSG- if you want me to send you the vid, let me know. pSS: Sorry for screaming in your ear all night!
Just enjoy the music! Weird to hear so much complaining. I was not at Newark, but I did go to Hartford and Boston. And let me tell you, the band - and the crowd - rocked! Awesome. I was at the legendary third show in Massachusetts in 2003 (voted one of the 10 best concerts in the long and storied history of Great Woods.) I was at MSG for the "Live at Madison Sqauare Garden" show recorded on DVD. What I'm saying is - Hartford and Boston were every bit as graet as those shows. Was I surprised to read that Newark had a lame crowd? I was. But I did notice that several of the songs had brighter lights than in past shows. When the lights in the crowd aren't as dark people are not as uninhibited (or vocal or dancing) as they may be were it darker. Who knows? Anyway, it didn't stop me or the crowd in Hartford or Boston (and I'm not a headbanging screamer.)
My point is, for anyone who reads this, that PJ is still every bit as good as they used to be. In fact, I truly enjoy them more than I did all those years ago. God Bless.
Thanks 10 Club for the great seats for a GREAT show. You really knew who the true Pearl Jam fans were a this concert, they were totally into it. Can't wait to go to MSG on Friday 5/21!!!!! Hope the woman I helped with her batteries in the Leopard coat will foward some of the great pics she took @ the concert.
What is there to "get"? They're a great band, they play amazing live shows, I love going to see them live, and I don't think there will ever be a case when I go and see them and I will be dissatisfied. They always come out and perform great, regardless of how "into it" the crowd is. Maybe when I go on Thursday, I'll feel more compelled to dance and scream the lyrics and throw my hands in the air. Maybe I won't. Is it really my fault though? I'm not going to force myself to do anything. If I don't feel like putting in the same amount of energy, I'm sorry, that's just how it's going to be. Does it really make me any lesser of a fan? Do I really deserve to be chastised and accused of somehow contributing to it not being as good of a show? I think that'd be getting a little ridiculous...
This was only my 3rd show ever. My 1st 2 were the final 2 nights at the Spectrum in Philly. Yeah I know, I've come into the game late, but given the fact that I'm 20 hopefully I can be excused. I've always been a fan of Pearl Jam ever since I broke into the music world after age 10 but I've grown to love and truly support and appreciate their music more within the last couple years. I've been to enough concerts to know when the crowds into it, and last night they clearly weren't, which is sad cause Pearl Jam fans are so loyal and passionate that I just couldn't picture a show with such down beat fans. I'll blame it on the fact that they're losing their NBA team and they're greatest chance of a championship in any sport got their asses kicked by Philly (GO FLYERS!!!) Anyway, the overall atmosphere did seem a little low, but that's not to say the crowd wasn't still active. I know my section (Section 1) was going crazy like a lot of the others. My 1st 2 concerts were laid out with a lot of crowd pleasers and singles so last night was a great experience for me to get a true PJ fan type of show. I'm seeing them again tomorrow night at MSG so I hope I get another pure-hearted PJ show from Eddie and the boys. All and all, last night's show was amazing regardless of the crowd's energy, which was still great but not as great as it could've been. Let's see if NYC can generate more love and support for those guys!
OK, I looked at the other comments and everyone is echoing my view on it.
Setlist: Freakin amazing! Some huge surprises! At the start of every few songs, the fans in my section would just turn to each other and say, "holy shit!!!". Yes these are songs played, but it looks like what you see here was filled with uncommon songs, so you really would have needed to follow them to every show on the tour the past 2 years to have heard all of these. Greaaaattttttttttt setlist. These setlists on this tour are just ultra-awesome but this one really shines.
Crowd: WEAK with a capital WEEEE. I would think this is because so many 10c members were not interested in going to Newark, maybe because they don't know how to get there or collectively said it would be weak, and then made it a self-fulfilling prophecy by all not going. I don't blame the non-fans or fair-weather-concert-goers who bought the leftovers. I blame the hardcore 10c fans who thought going to Newark on a Tuesday as a consolation to MSG would be lame. You guys should be ashamed of yourselves. Do your part as a fan and get your ass to the show and ROCK OUT!!! The positive to that is that probably we just recruited a bunch of new fans. I don't know if anyone else noticed, but from my seat, side stage on Stone's side, I saw a huge response to In Hiding. The crowd really responded to that one, even in the cheap seats. This leads me to believe that the the arena was filled with much newer 10c members who didn't quite put the effort into getting MSG tickets (spending 3 hrs at work like I did reloading the ticket page).
Band: Despite the weak crowd, and the band clearly taking notice on the opener, they appeared to just accept it and say "f. it... let's smash this dump!". They brought the heavy hitting songs in with a bang, and got the lame crowd going as much as they could. And you could see they were trying to get them to rock.
Conclusion: Sure, the crowd was weak, but the band brought their A-game in the form of a stellar setlist and some real hard effort into playing a super show. Throughout, I couldn't help but think that this is just a warm up... and I think the band and other 10c members knew it too. I was telling my neighbors (after calling out to McCready to "melt my face off!!!!!!!"), that this show was just foreplay.... the real deal will be MSG. You know the building will just go berserk. Savor the pre-game that was Newark.... MSG 1 and 2 are going to tear your skin off. Guaranteed. See you there.
Band seems to be enjoying themselves. That's awesome. I tremendously enjoyed seeing my favorite band.
To the crowd point, yes, weak. I guess it's your right to just sit there, but you don't seem to get that you do take away energy. Everyone starts clapping during a great part, we all start, and some people just sit there like stoned zombies. Would it kill ya? You must see what we are trying to do. It can make the difference between a good and great show, for fans and the band. We're in this energy thing together. The band gets it, why don't "fans"? You're really gonna keep your hands in your pockets? Smoke more pot and watch a DVD at home on your couch.
I had this other guy sitting in front of me, with his girlfriend, and it looked like the guy had his testicles chopped off and she had them in her pocket. They seemed like they were observing like doctors. Why would you pay good money to go observe? I admit, I don't get people.
Still perplexed by 10C. Member for almost 15 years, and I have yet to get "great" seats. Oh well. I still think they do an outstanding job, I'm just confused how the whole thing works.
Althoght the crowd was a bit weak, the show was great. Solid set list. Cool to see Eddie in the Walter Payton jersey. He was a hell of a player, and I bet one of Eddies hereos as a kid. Nice gesture to "Sweetness." Hope to see ya in MPLS/St.Paul soon!!
Thanks Ten Club for my amazing front row seats!!! Actonsgirl, I saw your son with the tambourine, so cool. For those in my area, I was the big guy on the far right of side of the stage with the cane you all kept trying to get around, lol. Great fun with some great people! Got some cool pics of Eddie when he jumped on the amps during Alive, but accidentally deleted my video of it :( Great setlist, though as mentioned W.M.A. was tagged to Daughter and not Blitzkrieg Bop. Going to MSG Friday and hope it is an extra long set as it is the last U.S. show of the tour.
I thought this show was amazing! I was in the fifth row and couldn't get enough of it...I didn't want the night to end. I have only seen PJ 6 times including the upcoming Garden on show on Friday. Been a tc member since 1994 but fell out of the whole PJ thing and recently rejoined last year. It made me realize how much more enjoyable a concert can be when you are so close up with the band. It puts you right in the middle of the energy and you just feel like you are part of THEM, as opposed to being all the way up there in the stadium. I had 28th row seats in Buffalo but I actually did not enjoy that show. The crowd was rowdy and I just was not impressed. But last night blew me away! I feel very lucky to have seen them and can't wait to see them again at the garden Friday night. Of course, being in the 300's will be different, but hey, I'm lucky to even see them at all. Thanks Pearl Jam for keeping it real and for each time, making us fans happy.
Couldn't agree with you more BD! I could recall a PJ concert a few years back where the guys played entire extra set cause the audience was so into the music...We asked for more and we got it! He did remark that they had off today. I'm sure if they were feeling the love they would have played a few more tunes :) It's so worth it to shake 'dem bones.
I agree that the crowd's energy was weak overall. I was disappointed by that, but that's my opinion. However, my section, which was on the lower level through the Ten Club (best seats I've had so far in my four-show history, by the way), was full of people who were way too drunk. I have no problem with drinking (or indulging in whatever you need to) at a show at all, not at all. But, when people start falling on others and male attendees manhandle (sorry for the pun) female attendees by kissing them on the cheek and grabbing them when it is not wanted, it takes away from the experience. I have never been around that kind of audience before at a PJ show. I just need to get that out there.
I was totally into the show (dancing, screaming and singing my heart out) and loving every minute of PJ's performance. Pearl Jam as always rocked and Eddie was amazing, as always. Loved that they played "You Are"!
I wish I was going to MSG this week. I've never seen the guys in my home state.
That's right...it's your choice to stand there with your hands in your pockets, just like its my choice to stand and shake my bones without being told to sit down. As for caring about crowd energy - you should, it can make or break a band's performance whether they get a positive response from the audience. Eddie even noticed it, and said something.
What an amazing expeience. I won the lottery with 2nd row seats and travelled all the way from Cali. UNBELIEVABLE. Loved every minute of it! Had a 10 year-old boy and his father next to me and hope that someday my son becomes half the fan he was. Eddie gave him his tamberine and guitar pick- what a stud! Love PJ more every time I see them and Eddie always brings it. Looking forward to Ireland this summer.
People need to stop caring so much about the crowd energy. And by caring, I mean b***ing. It's my right to go to these shows and stand there with my hands in my pockets if I want. If that's how I enjoy the band, it's my personal choice. You can't tell me that I don't appreciate or like the band as much as you do just because I don't get really wild when I see them live. I don't think the crowd energy was low enough that it was insulting to the band, as some people here are suggesting. It was fine. The show was good. Just be satisfied with that.
I am so grateful that I had ninth row tickets but I have to agree the energy level of the crowd was low. You can tell the guys were giving it their all to get the crowd moving and put on a phenomenal show like always. A fight broke out between two guys in front of us but I guess there's always a hothead in the crowd ruining a good time for others.
I wish I had tickets for MSG...my home venue :(
I cant vouch for people off the floor but where I was (sec F) on the floor it was hard not to rip those seats up and start a pit! Loved the show, loved that it was in my home state and loved that they covered the Tom Waits(Made famous by Jerseys own Springsteen) Jersey Girl!
The song Eddie sang with Band of Horses is "Act Together" by the Rolling Stones. On another note Section 8 was rocking last night. My best friend came from CT and I came from Philly. It was his first PJ show, and he said it was the most intense concert he has ever gone to.
I have to agree with Mookie Vedder, and apologize to the band. The crowd energy was pathetic, and embarassing (although the performance was a religious experience, as always). I was actually told to sit down by someone behind me - I tried to remind him that it was "a rock concert" and not a poetry reading, but ended up finding new seats. Also disappointed by the fact that nobody seemed to know "Brother". Guys, sorry for the poor showing...hope you won't hold it against us and will come back to NJ soon. See you at the Garden!
so happy the Newark show was added and fan club tickets were made available to those who did not get fan club tickets for MSG. That was a welcomed surprise and made me love the band even more. Truly considerate...Thank you...show was great!! Can't wait for the Friday Garden show!!!!!
Section 8 was definitely rocking out but I could see there was some dead spots around the arena. I think there was a good mix of people in Newark considering all the different areas attending the show but Thursday and Friday at MSG will be insane.
This was my 17th show and I took my brother to his first PJ show, who ironically got me into them. The great thing about them is you never know what your going to get. NO Betterman, Elderly, or RVM which was fine for me considering I have seen them all multiple times. I was stoked they didnt end with yellow or rockin in freeworld. I really am curious if they read our reviews. I love reading all the reviews how one PJ opinion differs from another regarding the show. That is why this band is amazing and all of their fans will never be completely satisifed. Unfortunately i have to agree with the naysayers on this show about the crowd. Crowd was decent at best, one guy in my section slept threw the whole show it was very weird. But Pearl jam was really out to Rock yesterday. I was really impressed with their energy after the boston show which was my type of setlist but hey any PJ show is amazing cause they keep me guessing. Once again for me they ignored no code...I don't understand why. Im sure I'll get no code tomorrow. They did listen to a request from a few days ago which was footsteps which Ironically I wrote to play after the buffalo show, so thanks to the others that requested it. If their is only one song to request which doesnt matter as long as you rock out like I know you will at the garden I would love to see Release played anywhere other then an opener...I might be greedy on this request. I thank you for all the awesome music and I'll see you Tomorrow.
Even though the Jersey crowd was one of the most lackluster live audiences I've ever seen at a PJ show, the boys still kicked ass, and I loved every minute of it!
Great Show, especially considering the crowd. I been to PJ shows w/worse crowds. It was a bit weak, but not horrible. Amazing set list, haven't heard "Brain of J" live in a while, and was happy they didn't end the show with Yellow. It's a given that hearing "Alone" & "Brother" live was a great gift from the band, not to mention their cover of "Jersey Girl". As usual could've done w/out Leatherman, but they did play In Hiding & Immortality.
I was in section 129, and the people around me were great, they were standing up through the whole show. I even accidentally spilled some beer on this guy twice, and he was cool with it even before I came back with the beer I bought him. And of course there's nothing like rushing to the train station after a show to catch the train since they're running an hour apart that time of night. Wonder if that ever crosses Eddie's mind? hmm. Can't wait for the Garden Shows. Wasn't able to get 10c tixs for both shows, but at least I got them for the 2nd one. Good Times!
Great show.I had nice seats from 10c.Sec d,row 4.Not bad at all considering I have no seniority.Alone,Brother,Leatherman and Footsteps.Of the Girl was classic.I thought the croud was good.My section was great and knew every song, not just the hits. The Rock was about 95% filled.A few empty seats in the rafters.Took the train from Manhattan where I live.15 min.Cant wait for tomorrow night. Thanks 10c.

I could not disagree more with Stuart's post. You just don't "get" live PJ.
I wish I had tickets for MSG...my home venue :(
8:45.. great show cant wait till thurs in nyc...
I cant vouch for people off the floor but where I was (sec F) on the floor it was hard not to rip those seats up and start a pit! Loved the show, loved that it was in my home state and loved that they covered the Tom Waits(Made famous by Jerseys own Springsteen) Jersey Girl!
Agreed, Section 8 was rocking
Actually it was two tags, Blitzkrieg Bop and then WMA
Can't wait for the Friday Garden show!!!!!
anyone remember what time they came on?
Section 8 was definitely rocking out but I could see there was some dead spots around the arena. I think there was a good mix of people in Newark considering all the different areas attending the show but Thursday and Friday at MSG will be insane.
Lukin into Once was awesome
Does anyone know what song Eddie sang with Band of Horses?
my bad they didn't totally ignore no code. They played lukin
I thank you for all the awesome music and I'll see you Tomorrow.
ummmmm Daughter tag as Blitzkrieg Bop?????? ummm no
it was W.M.A.
and it was was AWESOME!

Thanks 10c.
