Hey Canada Sel - I partied with some really awesome guys from Canada that night - never got any numbers to go see more shows together - was that you??? I stayed at the Hampton and so did the 4 guys from Toronto....hit me up
I was at the 03 show (FUCKING AWESOME!) and i was at this one (AMAZING!)...................Alls i got to say is till death do us part!!!! without Pearl Jam life would'nt be the same! COME BACK SOON!
This was my first PJ concert and DEF won't be my last. They were awesome for 3 hours. Please tour again quickly! Secon greatest show I've ever seen (behind Roger Waters)!
they didn't play any of your regular rotation songs (elderly woman, betterman, yellow ledbetter) the night before in cleveland. both shows i will remember forever... quit complaining, we are privleged to live through these times with them. they will go down in history as one of the best. long live pj
First Pearl Jam concert I've ever attended- thank you guys for not letting me down and exceeding any and all expectations! Look forward to seeing you next tour, wherever you will be I'll be there for sure!
Agreed :) I also had been out of the PJ loop for a couple of years, but Backspacer and this concert have rekindled my love for Pearl Jam! They're the best!!
This was one of my favorite high school/college bands. I bought Ten in the summer of 1991. My girlfriend (now wife) loved their '95 show at the San Diego Sports Arena. I remember waiting in line for hours on a chilly San Diego night when the second, untitled record was released some time my sophomore year in college--at midnight. The band called it "Vs." later on, but my copy has no title on it at all. I treasure that record.
Anyway, I live in Buffalo now for work (awesomely cool city, underground art scene, Ani D. has her record company here, etc. etc.), and I got to go to this show as a present from a friend. It had been many years for me, and I was afraid these guys would sound like those geezers from the '60s who just play their greatest hits and don't seem to know what city they're in.
No way!
PJ was unpretentious, authentic, and had an awesome sound. I had not appreciated McCready's skill before May 10--he stands alongside any of the great alt rock guitarists. His work on Yellow Ledbetter was outstanding, for example. The band was so tight that Eddie Vedder's mistake and retake of "Fatal" came off as charming. A welcome, comic break from the near-perfection overwhelming us all night.
The set list was brilliant. No greatest hits b.s. here. Instead, they offered a mix of the old, the new, and the rare-but-interesting. I saw most of the great alternative/'90s bands in the '90s (Jane's A., Black Crowes, V. Femmes, Beck, RHC Peppers, Blind Mellon, REM, etc. etc.), and this show was one of the best concerts I've ever been to. It simply amazes me that a band this popular can still sound as fresh and interesting as they did back when Vitalogy came out. No--better.
I downloaded the boot several days ago. It stands up extremely well as its own record. The energy of a committed and joyous Buffalo audience--usually singing its heart out--was a key feature of this remarkable night. I'm sorry some of our guests from NYC didn't enjoy themselves down on the floor. For me, it was a revelation. This show (and the superb Backspacer) has renewed my faith in Pearl Jam.
Here's hoping these guys rock for another 20 years.
the Buffalo show was my first PJ concert, I will remember that day for the rest of my life! I have been a fan since 1992 just never had a chance to go so when the opportunity came up to leave Vegas fly to Buffalo and watch PJ I jumped on it! The setlist was amazing, the sound was not bad as others say, and the crowd was amazing!! I am now addicted and need to go to another show ASAP!!!!
I would pay to see PJ perform 'Old MacDonald's Farm' for 3 hours if it came to that. However, in honesty, I would have traded the Cleveland setlist for Buffalo's in a heartbeat.
I thought the set list was great, but their seemed to be something wrong with the sound at HSBC arena, nothing came through clear (vocals and guitar too loud and jumbled together) and it took more time than usually to even distinguish what song was being played. I have heard this from several other people who attened the show, and I have seen them before where the sound was crystal clear. What the hell was going on?
I too had some idiots sitting behind me, however the show, setlist & crowd were awesome!! My son & I went to Cleveland the night before & we loved both shows & the setlists. The Highlight in Cleveland for me was hearing Leash & in Buffalo it was Light Years & Not For You. Quit complaining & be thankful you got to see the best band ever. My son is going to see them in Newark & both shows in Madison Square Garden...wish I could do the same, but he's young & is able to do so, he loves them as do I. Anyway I had a great time both nights, they do no wrong in my eyes!!
What do you expect...people are going to be smoking, drinking and what ever else they do. You can't control the situation so just sit back and enjoy the show.
Like you said nothing will top your experience when Ed gave you front row, hey that's once in a life time baby...can't expect that ever time.
They usually have background but they only get to Buffalo like every 7 years so they had to open up for extra seating. I was at the Cleveland show the night before too and they had a background there. I actually thought it was cool to see them open that up, like Ed said "after all they are people too!"
Wow, just reading everyone's comments. There is alot of negative people out there. I'm not sure what your all looking for when you go to the show, but I for one thought it was a GREAT SHOW. I thought the crowd was loud, they were into the show, and I thought the band felt the crowd's energy. If there are a ton shows out there that the crowd is ten times better than say Buffalo, I have missed some great shows and I guess I can't wait for the day that happens when I experience that crowd & show. Anyways I'm happy for the shows I attend, I have a good time and rock out while there. Untill next time and to all those other people that can do nothing but find the negatives of the show........stay home, and I'll have a chance a better seats and a great time.
I agree about the crowd. I had ok seats, 306 row 3. The people in fron of us and to both sides were sitting the whole damn show, didnt sing, just sat there....WTF! I have seen this band so many times and this is the worst audience yet. Anyway I didnt let them ruin the show for me, I rocked out and so happy to hear Fatal!
in response to the comments. i'm grateful for all the shows i see or i wouldn't spend all the money i do to see them 3 or 4 times when they go on tour. i think they are they greatest band ever! i was just stating that it wasn't the best one i've seen and my ten tickets weren't very good. i still enjoyed the show and to the A-hole who had the stupid comment about bring a 5 foot tall girlfriend u don;t pick your tickets with ten club it random thanks see u in nyc!!!
See them in MSG where they will be appreciated? Get off your high horse! Maybe the problem is you don't appreciate that every fan around you paid the same money for their seats as you did. Perhaps you should have spent more time enjoying the show the band put on than critiquing the fans around you. Buffalo has been waiting seven years for Pearl Jam to come back to this town. Don't you dare tell me we didn't appreciate them.
2nd show. got there 2 mins before PJ started to play. Idk i went to the philly concert on 10/31, was a better concert. but this was a better experience. Light years..
This was the 4th time I've seen PJ and I wasn't impressed with the audience to say the least. I am from NYC and have seen them twice in NYC, once in Toronto and now in Buffalo. They were good but the audience by far was the worst. I had fan club seats, 28th row (would have better seats since I've been in fanclub since 1994, but I canceled my membership and just rejoined again in 2009). I'm 5'5" and couldn't see well at all unfortunately. There first encore was only after an hour....the main problem was the audience, rowdy, smoking, I had to deal with some guy smoking next to me, and I am allergic to cig smoke, makes you realize how much an audience can influence how good of a time u have at a concert....I thought the sound effects weren't great either...and what happened to the strobe lights and background on the stage? I guess I'm used to seeing them at the garden. My first show was in 1994 at the Paramount theater in NYC when Eddie gave me front row tickets, and NOTHING will ever top that one. I'm looking forward to seeing them at MSG next week and Newark next week as well. Love you guys!
Thanks for another great show guys!!! My 10th time seeing Eddie and the boys and couldn't be happier with this show. The setlist was great and the guys were really into it! These guys always deliver!! So happy to be able to see them again and again. Keep rocking guys! Your true fans love you!!!!
I am glad you had a different experience then me. I truely enjoyed the set and love when they go outside the box. There was just no energy in my section. Maybe I am used to their shows where from 1st row to last the place is maniacal, this just wasnt thae case that night.
What a show....great seats..300 level all the way up top..great setlist...since all PJ songs are awesome, not very easy to go wrong there. Only bad part was reading some of the crappola on this message board. Sheesh...
First time on this message board..and its like any other message board out there...for the Bills...for the Sabres, etc. You have your diehards who take whatever they get and love every minute of it...you have your whiners who love it but are NEVER happy with it...and then, of course you have your morons that bring 5 foot tall girlfriends on the floor of a rock concert, don't see an issue with it, and proceed to bash the city of Buffalo on here. Whoever you are dude...realize you made yourself look like a total rookie.
Outstanding....keep up the good work everyone...keep proving that 80% of humanity are idiots...but get the same rights as everyone else.
FOCKER OUT
to all the a**holes bitching and complaining about setlists and seats, etc, i will gladly take your tickets next time. just be grateful for the experience.
It's not about what was played but who played. Sure I have my views on what I'd like to hear or how I want the show to go, but that is not up to me. What is up to me is whether or not I choose to go and how may shows I go to. I'm thankful they are on tour so that I can go see a performance, and that typically means a few hours of traveling. But even more important is that I get the boots of the unbelievable show. Nothing better than sitting around and listening to them, by the way love the PJ Radio player. Thank you. If you want to complain about the shows don't go just sit home and make your own playlist with the boots. But know that you'll be missing out on the true moments that make the show. Every show can be as memorable as you want to make it.
Thank you Pearl Jam for sticking together for all these years and making wonderful music for each person to enjoy in their own way.
I will be one of the poster's to scratch my head and wonder "what do FAN'S really want". Monday night in Buffalo, the band was at the top of their "game", as were the fan's at the show. Compared to the other show's I have attended: Toronto, Hamilton(memorable),Buffalo2006(incredible),Chicago(2009 - awesome), Monday's gig was by far the most energetic, I have seen the band play. As for setlist's, it is really fantastic that every night the band put's together a different setlist, this is a rarity amongst touring bands. Being a huge Rush fan as well, I know that like PJ fan's, Rush fan's too travel to many gig's in a row, unlike PJ fan's, Rush fan's see the same show every night(same song's ,same light sequences etc..) so whether you get a high energy show like Monday, or you get a show with rarity's and maybe more melodic tune's or you get a show with all the commercial fav's, please be thankful that after almost 20 plus year's, they still have the passion to "Rock their asses off" every night and "NEVER" mail in a gig. One last thing, gig's are not a competition, the band play's their heart's out every night. It's great to be a PJ fan!!!!
I gotta be honest, I loved the show and I love this band. But I am definitely tired of the negativity on this website. So while I am not quitting the 10c and giving any of you complaining assholes my 6th row floor seats, I AM taking a break from this web page because many of you just plain suck. Peace.
I love all the Cry Babies on here . 3rd show and I loved every minute of it . I think they should cover Cry Baby by Garnet Mimms and The Enchanters to End the next show . Wonder if the winers did get front row and Eddie spilled wine on them if they would bitch about that ????????
"what have you done to earn the right to criticize them?" . . . . are you kidding me? i thought that we had the right to voice our opinions in this country. i'm not saying that i don't like the band. in fact, i'm still a huge fan. i've seen them live dozens of times, and this simply was not one of their better shows. to pretend that they are gods, and can't ever be criticized, is absurd. they are not above that and criticizing them doesn't mean that someone is not a fan. also, don't forget that we (the fans) are the ones that have made them. we've given them as much, or more, than they have given us. . . i don't know. . maybe kissing their ass all the time, and pretending that backspacer is their best album and buffalo was one of their best shows, like some of you tend to do is just not my style.
i've been to over a dozen pearl jam shows since 94 and been all over the country to see them and for some odd reason every time i've seen them in buffalo it's been my least favorite. pearl jam always sound and performce good but it seems to be a plain show and this time it was the security. i had ten tickets and was on the floor 34 rows back which i don't get cause if i know they would be so bad i would have bought better seats from ebay or stubhub i thought ten tickets where the best seats in the house i guess not. i went with my girlfriend who is 5 feet tall and could not see anything and everytime she stepped in the aile the dickhead security pushed her back in so in the long run i will stick to going to the big city shows and never go to shitty buffalo again
I don't know why anybody would be upset by this setlist. First, No Way is a rarity, only been played live 8 times now. Also, Fatal is a very, very great song and has only been played live four times, so you should consider yourself lucky to have heard it. Light years is another song that is great and doesn't get played very often. Other than that, there are some very solid songs that are very great to hear played live. Animal, Grievance, Given to Fly, Spin the Black Circle, and Small Town are all awesome choices.
Now, like anybody else I would love to hear a 45 song setlist with 20 different songs that are extremely rare, but that is what keeps me coming back to shows--every show is different in length, songs played, feel, and so on. If every setlist was 45 long and played all these incredible rarities, they would no longer be rarities and we would all start to want 55 songs instead.
I have enjoyed every setlist I have ever heard, and I keep going to shows for that chance that there will be over 40 songs, my top 15 favorite will be played, and there will be some incredible rarities that I can brag about later, but i don't expect that every time.
I can't believe that people are mad that they routinely end with Yellow Ledbetter. First of all that is an incredible song, and it is great as the closer. It is tough for them to play songs that will make everyone happy with a catalog comprised of hundreds of possibilities, but everyone should be happy because you are getting the chance to the best band, and the best live band, at the same time. I was at the Noblesville Indiana show and they played past curfew and paid a fine just to make sure that the lightning delay didn't keep the fans from getting what they came for.
Any setlist is fine with me.
You are all unbelievable. I live in central Colorado and have not seen Pearl Jam since the Gorge in TWO-THOUSAND-SIX!!! For someone to criticize a setlist or bicker back and forth and name-call saddens me as a fan of this great band. I have seen the 10 shows and have traveled far and "broke the bank" so to speak to do this.
So to all you "fans" who are unsatisfied w/setlists or feel the need to argue back and forth consider youself this: SPOILED. Shame on you all and I hope you sit back and listen to some of the bootlegs of the shows you've been to and remember what it's like to be a true fan. And cherish every chance you get to see them. As fans we are very lucky they still tour and put out great music every few years. Sure there will always be favorites that you're not going to hear. They can't please everyone and play EVERY SONG. They would have to play 3-4 shows in each city like they did back in Boston where they set out to play each song they had previously played on that tour.
So instead of bickering...get off the computer, throw in a live album and turn up the volume. And be thankful for the experiences you've had.
I often tell myself that if I never get to see my favorite band live again...I had a good run. And to end it w/the Gorge...I myself was spoiled.
Thank you PEARL JAM for everything. And thanks to the fans that make the experiences better.
It's amazing how the people around you can affect your whole concert experience. This was my 24th show, and I thought this crowd was the best that I've ever been a part of.
Honestly, I've seen this wonderful band at least 6 or 7 times, since the 1994 Boston run (2 at the gardens and one at the Orpheum... the single greatest concert I have ever attended).
For me, the show was great... the set-list may not have been as stellar as the 3 hour bender we were subject to in 2003, but hell... not EVERY stop on the tour can be so exemplary. The band were in a great mood and were firing on all cylinders by the first number. For me, however, as I'm graying at the temples (45 now, not the 29 year young lad I was at the Orpheum 4/94 show)I'm finding it harder to lock into the energy emanating from the stage when I'm on the floor. Maybe its just a matter of fair-weather fans who come to the show to celebrate life with many beers and bongs, or perhaps these folks feel its WELL within their rights to act without shame or respect for other concert goers, but on two separate occasions I was harassed by my concert neighbors (and by two different sets of neighbors!).
Forgive me, but I'm not bouncing ebulliently in the sea of other fans (hey, I won't hold it against people if thats how they decide to get into the music) but to stumble into me in a drunken mess, or to crowd me out of the already minuscule space on the floor if only to dance a jig and air guitar to your favorite tune (all the while spitting on me, smacking me in the face with your elbow, stomping on my feet, falling into me when you lose balance, ad nauseum) when you're in the flippin' wrong seat to begin with (just add beer) just leaves me cold with anger and regret.
From what I COULD enjoy in between all this boozed-up nonsense, I really dug it. I got into it. The band did their job, in spades. Its just a sad shame and an indictment to the boorish louts having the time of their lives (in spite of the others around them) that tends to kill it for the rest of us.
I don't expect the band to outlive and outdo the masterful, ethereal job they did at the Orpheum lo those many years ago, and I love this band as much as I (and Eddie) love that other band - The Who - till my dying days. Its just that, next time, I will remember to stand in the seats a bit higher up from the maddening crowds on the floor.
We would have been lucky for a 30 minute wait! It was about an hour and a half wait for us. I REALLLLY hope they make a Toronto stop in 2010, or maybe another border show like Detroit or something. Has anyone heard anything in regards to this?
I have spent thousands of dollars on shows, cds, etc...That is what I have done. Your right.. I can stop going or I can criticize and let my voice be heard which is what every person in America Pal is entitled to do. If I want them to do something I am allowed to ask.
Great show. Great experience. Brought my daughter along and had a great time. Thanks to PJ for staying together and touring for your fans. We are lucky that they're still out there creating for us. One question, the links at the top of this page for the bootleg must not be ready yet? All I get is the Philly bootleg. Again, great show in Buffalo!
Here's some feedback. My feelings towards fans who constantly complain about a band they supposedly love should just quit the fan club. You will obviously never be satisfied with what this band does and that's a shame. You don't seem to understand how priveleged we are to view them like we do. They will go down as rock legends and you want to complain about their song choices and setlists. If you don't like what they are doing then stop going. They are one of, if not the greatest, rock acts out there now. They have earned the right to do what they want. What have you done to earn the right to criticise them ?
The new policy is great. I have been a member since 99. Ive been to 18 shows and never sat front row until Monday. I waited 14 hours in Chicago to seee them front row at lolla. Suck it up and go to more shows if you want to sit front row. The band wants to see new young faces up front, not the same old weatherd faces. Rock on!
This was my 16th show and I would have to say it was good. Nothing great. They played less then I expected and ended with a typical Yellow ledbetter with the lights on. I obviously will never experience what I experienced in Philly. They totally forgot that they put an album called no code out on this show. The thing with PJ is that they have such a great following they will probably never please everyone. I wish they would really go on tour and just play what they want and mix it up to beyond belief and rarely duplicate songs in shows played within a week of each other. I also would love to see Eddy play Hard sun with the band. I know its off his solo album but who cares. In the upcoming shows it would be amazing for them to reach back to Temple of the dog and play hunger strike or anything from that album. I would also like to see Footsteps again. The bottom line is that they are so good they want to please their fans with fan favorites. Guess what PJ your fans love all of your songs reach back and play as much variety as possible. Thats why we follow you. Its not the same show every night. The More variety the better. The only complaint about the Buffalo show would be RVM was the weakest I had ever see them play...The crowd is usually much more into RVM but I feel PJ did a poor job getting the crowd involved on that one. MY last suggestion is why can't PJ end with Release instead of only open with it. They use to end with it. They always end with the same 4 songs so i know the show is over. I beg you to please mix it up. Get some Release in there. Love to hear other feedback
I have to respectfully disagree with with your thoughts on energy. I have seen the boys about 50 times and this was the worst crowd I have been a part of. My entire section sat with the exception of my 3 friends and 3 guys from toronto behind me. They didnt even stand for ALIVE. Also the acoustics in that building are terrible. It felt like I was 5 miles away. They boys did a great job trying to mix it up and were very into it, but I am excited to see them at MSG where they will be appreciated
mixed review . . . first of all, very high energy and the band sounded great. however, in my opinion, set was shorter than i expected and i really wish they'd drop a few songs from the regular rotation (elderly woman, betterman, yellow ledbetter). i'm also disappointed at the new ticket policy. i've been in the club since 94 and have been to a ton of shows. but i've never sat front row. so, it's a bit frustrating to see newer members, as well as those willing to pay hundreds from scalpers, get in there before you. also, a lot of drunk and obnoxious fans in our area, and many more from the back that pushed their way to the front. definitely a better experience, and better show, last time pj rocked buffalo.

in response to the comments. i'm grateful for all the shows i see or i wouldn't spend all the money i do to see them 3 or 4 times when they go on tour. i think they are they greatest band ever! i was just stating that it wasn't the best one i've seen and my ten tickets weren't very good. i still enjoyed the show and to the A-hole who had the stupid comment about bring a 5 foot tall girlfriend u don;t pick your tickets with ten club it random thanks see u in nyc!!!
LMAO. Amen.
Steve Balsamo
It's amazing how the people around you can affect your whole concert experience. This was my 24th show, and I thought this crowd was the best that I've ever been a part of.
Bitch and moan is what i am hearing. Opinions are like assholes, everyone has them and they all stink.
Cheers from Canada.
