This was my first PJ show and it was so full of passion and energy - memories include Eddie jumping into the crowd, and coming back out with lipstick on and his shirt torn to bits... that and they played Ocean in the MIDDLE of the show, which of course never happens anymore...
Anyway, I had been a life-long Who fan... but didn't know that Eddie was too until he came back for the encore with a guitar and spoke about Pete Townshend. He said Pete wrote a song that mentions Cleveland... and I couldn't believe my ears when I heard the chords of "Sheraton Gibson" begin. My seats were halfway around the arena, but it felt like I was the ONLY person in that venue, and the only one besides Ed who knew the song. I stood there singing along at the top of my lungs. A few people stared at me, wondering how I knew this obscure song I guess... but I didn't care. That was it for me - I've been a true blue PJ fanatic ever since. Years later (at the 2000 Cincy show) I gifted Eddie with a bootleg vinyl of The Who playing Quadrophenia in its entirety, as my thanks for his playing Sheraton Gibson (just for me!) all those years before, and all the amazing music PJ has gifted us since...
Gifted Eddie? Seriously? How'd you get it to him? Love this song and have seen them in Cleveland every time since then but not the time you saw it hoping he'd do it again. I'll be there Sunday on my birthday hoping again....
Hello! Yes... I was lucky enough to get 3rd row seats to that 2000 Cincy show, and made friends with 2 guys in the 2nd row who let me stand with them. I asked one of the roadies beforehand if I could hand up the album, and one of them said he'd do his best to help me do so. About 5 songs in (right after Evenflow - I still remember that) the roadie gestured to me to "go for it" and he got Eddie's attention and I stood up on my chair and handed it over to him. My friend tried to get a photo with me and Eddie, but WAS able to get one of Eddie looking down at me, holding the album. Still brings tears to my eyes all these years later. I went crazy taking photos the rest of the show, and ran out of film (back in the pre-digital days) only to have Eddie hold up my album again at the end and say "thanks for the memories!" and I couldn't even take a picture. But I still have it in my mind's eye... and always will. I did take a sign to the Cleveland show on May 9 "Sheraton Gibson"... but my seat was so far over to the left of the stage Eddie would never have seen it. I'd love, love, LOVE to hear that song live again though...
OK - your turn!
