Lyrics:
Yes I understand that every life must end, aw huh,..
As we sit alone, I know someday we must go, aw huh,..
I’m a lucky man to count on both hands
The ones I love,..
Some folks just have one,
Others they got none, aw huh,..
Stay with me,..
Let’s just breathe.
Practiced are my sins,
Never gonna let me win, aw huh,..
Under everything, just another human being, aw huh,..
Yeah, I don’t wanna hurt, there’s so much in this world
To make me bleed.
Stay with me,..
You’re all I see.
Did I say that I need you?
Did I say that I want you?
Oh, if I didn’t now I’m a fool you see,..
No one knows this more than me.
As I come clean.
I wonder everyday
As I look upon your face, aw huh,..
Everything you gave
And nothing you would take, aw huh,..
Nothing you would take,..
Everything you gave.
Did I say that I need you?
Oh, Did I say that I want you?
Oh, if I didn’t now I’m a fool you see,..
No one knows this more than me.
I come clean.
Nothing you would take,..
Everything you gave.
Hold me till I die,..
Meet you on the other side.

AMAZING
i have not had this intense visceral primal reaction to a pearl jam song since "black". this song is brilliant!
My new fave Pearl Jam Song!!!!
Just Breathe and The End are lyrically and vocally my two favorite songs on the new album. Just Breathe is one of my overall favorites now and The End is easily the best album closer to date. Stunning album. Wow
OH YEAH .. The POWER of Ed's voice on this, Unknown Thought and The End is truly BRILLIANT, This Album is now my #1 Fav, cannot fault a song on this really
I LOVE this song. I can't stop playing it over and over.
WOW!!!
Jesus...18 years later and they still blow me away..
When I watched the Backspacer promo... and Jeff said this was the best song ever written lyrically.... well.. he was correct. IMO
Is this song really Tuolumne (Into the Wild Soundtrack) with words?? ..
Goose bumps ..... Amazing
I just took a walk on this fall day in Portland listening to this song over and over and over.
It made me cry and smile. I miss him.
words cannot express....someone on this mentioned they have not had a PJ song effect them in such a way since BLACK...agreed. I have never heard a new PJ song and instantly call it my favorite....this song is it...as a matter of fact, a few others have had similar reactions from this new album, but this one...is in a league of it's own.
Eddie Vedder you F@#%ing genious!!!! This song is as others have put it, an instant favorite. I have never had a reaction to a new song like I have to this one. Keep it up forever guys...thanks for the music!!!!
!
Wow...I love this song. All it took was listening to it once.
The fellas played this live for the first time last night and it was absolutely amazing. Matt Cameron's wife and a few others played the viola to accompany the song. It was beautiful!!!
I just got the album in the mail today so I am a couple days behind but I was blown away by this song. Can't wait to see them in Philly.
this song is so very close to being the perfect song
I fell in love with this song from the first line, I lost my dad three years ago and this song hits home. Love it.
Eddie's connection to loss and pain is almost unfathomable. He takes the heart of emotion, and rips it down to it's essential core, and exposes it to the world. There is almost no way that you can't feel this through the music... Eddie Vedder and Mark Lanegan are the soundtrack to suffering, and loss. This is yet another masterpiece of Pearl Jam's evolution...
Jeff Ament - You were right... listening to Eddie's lyrics on this cd leaves all other lyricists light years behind.
i absolutely love it, its beautiful, moving, perfection
I fell in love instantly with this song, I can't help it..makes me cry everytime i listen to this song....makes me remember someone I left behind, the lyrics....so beautiful...so simple....so touching...
My favorite song of the Backspacer...Thanks Eddie....thank you so much for writing it
And Joshua Gale...I will love you forever
The boys gave me goosebumps in adelaide on my first listen .GOLD.
I love it when his plays acoustic. Everyone was all ears in Brisbane.
After spending the last 19 years with P.J. I cant think of another band or group to get OLD with....Thanks Pearl Jam! Ed's vocals and message on this track says it all. IT TAKES ME TO A PLACE VERY SELDOM VISITED... Dont worry about getting old my friends, we can always sing a song about it?
He never fails to express in words what I feel. Thanks Mike, Ed, Jeff, Matt and the immortal STONE G.
Things were different then all is different now I tred to explain Somehow.
G.C.
It kills me, too, giajammer; every, every time, and for the same reasons you said. I think I damaged things beyond repair and she's not ever coming back again.
Practiced are my sins, never gonna let me win.
I told Eddie this is my new wedding song...and that he'd have to come to my wedding to play it! :)
I got a tear in my eye this a.m. when I saw the video on vh1 this a.m.
thank you, pearl jam :)
As a pearl jam fan I am officially embarrassed that we now have a cheesy, crappy song like this as part of the PJ catalogue. Are we fans in such a worship mentality that we can’t admit how bad this song really is? Remember when Ed wrote out of real emotion.
Not sure how you don't like this song...it is a great one and I think he shows enough emotion in these lyrics.
"I’m a lucky man to count on both hands
The ones I love..."
great stuff. Just another chapter in the lives of the best band on Earth.
WOW! W/ FANS LIKE COALJAM WHO NEEDS HATERS? the song & the boys are 100000000% genius!
With a comment like that, how do you think PJ feels about having coaljam as an admitted "fan?"
I loved this song the first time I heard it, but it has become particularly meaningful in recent weeks as my father slowly died of congestive heart failure, struggling for breath, surrounded by a large community that loved him...
Because of this song, I have purchased a TenClub membership just to let PJ know that this song is helping the healing process of something I have not dealt with in 5 years. Although I am sure it is not the intention of the song, it is a direct reaction to something so intensely beautiful and heartfelt.
Thank you PJ!
~ and I think I'll just breath ~
Just a few weeks ago, my best friend, my agility partner, and my dog, Paige, was disgnosed with a bone tumor. She and I competed in dog agility for over 10 years. We are both "bitches" in this family of 3 other men, so we understand each other. Being a herding breed, doing nothing is not what we are used to. But her condition does not allow us to do much... she walks very little, and riding in the truck seems to be uncomfortable at times. We went to see her cow-friends, we ate ice cream in the truck, we stole frozen marrow bones from my other dog, she has been well spoiled. But I thought there were more I could do for her. But no, there are not many things she can do, and she probably does not find enjoyment from many things any more. Every night before we go to bed, I play "Just Breathe" and pet her. She does not want anything more than that, and it is the very quiet, and very peacceful moment for Paige and me. Being together and just breathe... This song has become the very special song for me. Thank you Pearl Jam for this song, that gives me the acceptance, comfort, strength, and peace.
@jammingwhileIcan I thought true PJ fans stuck by their band? It's 2010 not 91
I cannot get over this song. Perfection.
~ and now i still with Love ~ just breathe <3
There aren't singers songwriters as great as Eddie! His ability to describe and express his feelings is just unbelievable! Such a deep thinker, so intelligent, genius :) ps: I want to get married to this song.
