Understand she’s a force of nature
Contraband hiding deep inside her soul
Exorcising her will to lose control
She lets go
A common man, he don’t stand a chance, no
Wonderland pulling Alice in the hole
No way to save someone who won't take the rope
And just let’s go
One man stands the edge of the ocean
A beacon on dry land
Eyes upon the horizon
In the dark before the dawn
Hurricane has the trade winds blowing
A gale force shaking windows in the storm
Shipwreck on the rock that he calls home
With one light on
Somewhere there’s a siren singing
A song only he hears
All the strength that you might think
Would disappear,.. Resolving
One man stands alone, Awaiting
For her to come home
Eyes upon the horizon
In the dark before the darkness meets the dawn.
Makes me ache,... Makes me shake,...
Is it so wrong to think that love can keep us safe?
Last I saw, he was out there waiting
A silhouette in the black light, full moon glow
In the sand there he stands upon the shore
Forevermore
Somewhere there’s a siren singing
A song only he hears
All the strength that you might think
Would disappear, resolving
One man stands alone, Awaiting
For her to come home
Eyes are closed,.. You cannot know
But his heart don’t seem to roam.

Awesome song!!! It sounds like PJ in the 90's. Can't wait to have "Backspacer" in my hands.
Oh, I forgot! Please come back to Argentina... We are waiting for you!
Wow!! Brings me back to the V.S/Vitalogy days!! Backspacer is Amazing!
Great song. Many wrong lyrics posted here.
So well produced!!! really fantastic song here. This album is so f'n good
great, great song
thank you so much
Beautiful song. I hope they save the live debut for Portland! Maybe Vancouver can have Speed of Sound...sounds like a fair deal to me. :)
great song
this song saves the album.
great song, Peru is waiting for you
Kind of agree with you PearlDeniz. The album is growing on me though. This song is probably the strongest on there. Otherwise I really have to say this is one of their weaker efforts. Not terrible, but definitely not spectacular either.
You guys are on crack...this album is incredible. I can't stop listening to it, and everyday I seem to change my mind about which song is my favorite.
Some great lyrics on this one really won me over. At first I didn't really care for this song, but after repeat listening, it stands up really well.
Best song of the album! It-s getting better and better everytime I listen to it!!!
Everyone is entitled to their opinion - I have to say it right? Now that I said that ... what PJ fan who has listened and followed them for years could not think this album is wild, awesome, beautiful, uplifting, strong, different, and totally PJ?! PJ songs are deep and complex. Most songs give you "hook faitgue" after you hear them more than 8 or 10 times. These songs deliver, consistently, and get better because you keep hearing new sounds, and words, and you start to garner meaning in the songs .... because PJ songs have meaning!!!!!!
This particular CD to me really caught me right away because of the punk rock first few songs. I must admit, since then, I have been addicted to this CD. Big time! I always think new PJ songs are great (you know I really don't want Alive II) They caught me off guard with this one. It is just out of this world.
Every song is terrific ... but I've become an "Amongst the Waves" addict and I hope I get to hear it live. I think it will become a staple of theirs. God Bless
you've got to be kidding this album is on par with there first three albums. force of nature is a great song as are all of them. I cant deside which one I like most. keep on rocken jammers.
that last comment was for mcdonams and pearldeniz
yes, yes, yes. please play this, 4 times, in philly. thank you. :)
I am glad they got the first run of this out of the way... now they can definitely play it in Austin this Sunday... Please? Definitely my favorite on Backspacer.
I was @ the show in L.A. when they played this song for the 1st time live. GREAT SONG >>>>>> FANTASTIC SHOW!!!
I was honored to be in attendance at the premiere! WOW!!! A PERFECT SHOW!!!
I'm kinda goin thru some crap w/ a friend right now. This song relly hit me today...it has become my "Beacon."
I agree, good music grows on you. Multiple listening of "Backspacer" really gives a better perspective. "Force of Nature" was down my list of faves until today...now I can't get it outta my head.
hands down, best song on a very strong album.
Listened to B-spacer about 200 times already and this is my clear favorite.
I do love this song, one of my faves on the album and it was awesome live in SD! As I read the lyrics more and more I felt a connection to the Poe work "Annabel Lee". Similar imagery.

this song and amongst the waves are incredible. i'm gonna go out on a limb here and say Backspacer is their best album since vitalogy.
seeing the mighty pj tonight in melbourne, australia (embarassingly for the first time, although they haven't been to new zealand in about 10 years) and have never been so excited in my life!!
love your work eddie
This song help me keep thinking optimistically....please come to canada(winnipeg) and play this song!!!
Great song! The whole cd is wonderful, I think possibly my favorite. It has a whole new sound...very upbeat and happy. Keep up the good work guys!
This song, this cd are FREAKIN AMAZING!!!!! Listened to it 1st time thought "hmn - ok, theres some good stuff on there, slightly different, maybe more mature" - then I found myself singing 1 song after another and then couldn't wait to get somewhere I could put it on again. Theres a perfect song for every mood on this album. So well done guys!
And whoever asked the naysayers if they were on crack - SERIOUSLY! How can you not like this album????
~ I understand ~ ... this force of nature ...
this is the best song on the album. end of story.
~ Loves it still ~ <3
Heard this on the San Diego boot today. Blew my away how good it sounded live!
Song is very solid. Unthought Known is better overall and to me, the best written song on Backspacer, both lyrically & musically.
Overall, the album is not at the caliber of Self Titled (avocado), let alone Yield or Vitalogy, although I enjoy it, like every PJ fan does. It's WAY too short which is an irritation as it literally could've been 2.5 times longer & still fit on 1 CD. Incubus did the same thing with Light Grenades after A Crow... which was a 70 minute album. I don't get the trend but it pisses me off as my fav bands are all falling victim to minimal songs on new albums these days.
PJ has WAY too much material at all times to leave Backspacer to empty.
What would've pissed me off to no end would be to see a release of b-sides related to these sessions despite having 40+ minutes that could've had music on the disc. At least that didn't go down.
Looking forward to the next album now 2 years removed from BS, hoping for more Avocado/Binaural, less Riot Act sounds but like all PJ fans, I'll like whatever they put out =)
Echoing many of the thoughts posted here, this song is AMAZING! I have played Speed of Sound and Force of Nature non-stop for 2 months now while driving to work.
The poetry is so evident. I am using this song today with my 5th grade class. We are learning how to show rather than tell a story. The vivid picture that this song creates is so intense.
Musically this is the best sound on the record. The guitar work is raw, real, and refreshing.
LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT.
