Wow. Was in attendance at LA2 on 10/1/2009 and saw an awesome show. Then went to LA3 on 10/6/2009 and saw another awesome show w/Chris Cornell joining PJ for Hungerstrike!!! Then to top off the evening, Jerry Cantrell hopped onstage to do the solo for Alive!!!
Anywho, they did Footsteps at LA3 and the bud I took to it had only seen them once (these two shows were the first ones of many for me, longtime fan tho). The show my bud had seen was the 5/12/1992 show at the Ventura Theater in Ventura, CA (where I live BTW and couldn't get into show!) and that happened to be the first time they played Footsteps. I just emailed his special lil PJ nugget to him a few mins ago. I'm glad to have heard/seen it at the only LA show they played it tho and the only show stateside so far this tour.
took me almost 20 years before i found out this song was about someone on death row. you know this is the 3rd of 3 songs that tell an interesting story? check out alive, once and this song in that order. see if you can figure out the story.

It's amazing to think that Alive, Once, and Footsteps were all done in just 4 hours by Eddie. I just got finished watching the PJ20 documentary and to see them performing together just 6 days later after getting together and being that good...talk about magical moments. I feel privileged to be a fan and be able to experience the magic.
As for the story...the original meaning of Alive (the curse), along with Once (going on a killing spree), and then Footsteps (on Death Row) is very deep. That's one of the things I love about PJ. Their songs all have meaning...some more complex than others...but you really feel it.
I for one love blasting Once when I am playing first person shooter video games. It's the perfect song for that. ;-)
Now that the "curse" has been lifted by the fans changing the meaning of Alive, maybe PJ should do an alternate version of Once and Footseps for a new Mamasan Trilogy. The new versions would be leading up to the kid not being on Death Row because the curse was lifted. Anyway...would be kind of cool.
