This is one of my favorite shows of all time! the rain, the mud the glory and passion of the day still rules parts of my soul..Ben harper opened under perfect skies then somehow they orchestrated the rain - it was awesome. Does anyone have a recording of the show??? Several years back I looked and looked but only found the next night's show (which I didn't go to)...let me know - pjc_clark@hotmail.com
It was great show! It seemed everytime the band played an up tempo song the rain fell harder, then as they slowed the pace the rain came to a drizzle! John Popper from blues Traveler came out on stage and played harmonina durring Alive. Just amazing.
Here's a clip of the show...after they finish "leaving here", eddie talks about how he doesn't think we're going to leave and then proceeds to talk about how so many of us have found some common ground in their music..pretty cool.
My first show too. After about five songs packed like a sardine with the rest of the maniacs, I worked my way up to the front. Imagine: 17, my first Pearl Jam show, and front row in front of Stone. Awesome night.
This show was amazing..i remember the crowd was incredible...i crowd-surfed through the duration of alive and the sea of hands never let me drop..the rain enriched the experience and brought us even closer...i remember eddie remarking how impressed he was that we wouldn't leave despite the rain..wonderful memories of that day.
First PJ show ever! Had to take a bus to the Island, walked around for a bit then watched about the best 2 hours of my life go by in awe!! Amazing show...skies open up halfway through....some John Popper harmonica action during 'Even Flow'. First of many many, but you never forget your first.
This was when Eddie was fighting Ticketmaster (I fought the law and the law won.Bobby Fuller Five). I remember going to Yankee Stadium to catch the shuttle bus to Randalls with my wife Doris and my six year old son, Sean. It was his second concert. (As a 2 year old we had seen the Spin Doctors in the pouring rain in their summer of fame up the block in Brookdale Park in Bloomfield.) I was amazed how calm and organized it was. The fans kept high fiving Sean and he felt the center of everything. Of course, we sat up on the sides, we had a six year old with us after all. The show was transcendental, religious in its way. The skies opened up halfway through and it seemed just right, magical. It always is.
