Pearl Jam Rock Band Project Coming Next Year

05.11.09

We need your help! Ten Club, MTV Games and Harmonix’s Rock Band, and Rhapsody are teaming up to let you, Pearl Jam’s biggest fans, help us choose the best versions of Pearl Jam live songs that will be presented for the first-ever fan voted set list for a forthcoming Rock Band project.

Your expertise will help us determine which of these versions is worthy of making the cut. Just click on the songs you like and open up the Rhapsody playlist widget for that particular song. Once you have the widget open, listen to the version you think is the best. The versions that are played the most times will be deemed the best versions and will then be entered into consideration to make the final “set list” vote.

WOOHOOO!!!!! :D YAY!!!

OMG! This is so sweet! Can't wait!

I wonder what the project is? I'm still holding out hope for the other studio albums to hit RB at some point. PJ fits Rock Band perfectly.

Again Poland cannot attend.
This is what I see when I click Rhapsody trial subscription:
"We are not able to offer Rhapsody Unlimited in Poland at this time. For the latest music and entertainment offers in your country, click Current Offers. Click Cancel to end this session. "

:(...

So I can only wish other Jammers good fun

No European shows included in the short lists...quite disappointing is that.

Is money short?

Yep looks like it's a US only thing, boo hoo!! Guessing people are just gonna vote for songs from shows they attended which would be a bit of a shame as there looks to be some good versions from outside.

God I love this band though, despite there not being any Euro involvement.

rock band is what's wrong with music in 2009.

I agree, I hate rock band. This crap is exactly what is wrong w/ music nowadays. Even worse, 10 years from now there won't be any great young musicians b/c instead of slaving away on the fretboard of a real guitar growing up these kids play plastic commercialized crap. Pearl Jam, you are to good for this, do not contribute to downfall of the music industry. We beg you

Any thing for $$$$$ why

Try not to act so ignorant when you post. You know what that sounds like when you cry out "There won't be any good musicians in 10 years"? It sounds like "Rock and roll is the devil's music", "Don't swim until 2 hours after eating" and "Stay away from the brown acid". I'm sorry we can't all be impresarios like yourself. I can say I've seen many kids who had no interest in music prior start learning instruments based on the game. Hell, even those who don't go on to learn instruments get an appreciation for music other than Top 40. Isn't that good enough? Isn't that a step in the right direction?

Please try to be more open minded as opposed to the "OMG why for the $$$ PJ" bandwagon.

Anyone else not able to view the show choices for most of the songs from about the "R" songs and down? All I get are "Wash" options.

Sorry to ask, but is "roack band" one of these disgusting casting shows you see nowadays everywhere on TV?
If so it would be really a shame if PJ would participate in this creep. Really, think twice please! I'ver never seen "rock band" but if it is as bad as these other shows about superstars, models etc. which make my eyes burn, my brain hurt and ears bleed I would be, no I am very disappointed if you take part in these commercial bullshit.

Sail on!

Jan

okok, I was wrong... puhhh!!! Although, is a video game better? maybe I'm just to old

Does anybody else have the problem of when you click on RVM, you get 3 wash songs???

Hopefully they put atleast one version of each song on the game!

Greece cannot attend too...i hope u all vote the best version ,not by where the concert was

Did they really need to partner with Rhapsody to make this happen? It's weird enough seeing the band sell their songs to Rock Band (though I have no problem with it), but whoring out to Rhapsody as well is lame.

Number of Pearl Jams who can afford to host their own mp3s without making fans sign up for "trial subscriptions" to unrelated services? 1.

THIS IS EFFIN STUPID!!!! next there going to ask us if want king or queen size PEARL JAM BED SHEETS

What a disappointment from this negative fans do you people forget about us the kids I am 10 yrs old and I am trill about it stop complaining I will be able to play my favorite band Pearl Jam that to me is amazing.

Pearl Jam has always been good to the fans and it is greatly appreciated. Their discretion when it comes to associating their music with other art forms and projects has been exemplary. However, I think this one is poor judgement and cheapens the music, but you can't please everyone all the time. I still am looking forward to the next album.

I respectfully disagree with those who think Rock Band is a problem within the music industry. I have been a musician since I was 15, writing & recording original work, and Rock Band has helped me get into playing drums (I've only played guitar and sang, so it's like drums 101 basically).
Scoff if you want, but the coordination it helps develop is clearly applicable to making the jump to playing on a real drum kit. Sure there are differences, but they are insignificant compared to the benefits. Furthermore, Rock Band 2 has been very good about offering music that has been more underground, rather than only picking radio hits.
I'm excited about making my transition to playing real drums, and to see Pearl Jam opening up the catalog and offering more on Rock Band is ONLY a good thing. This is NOT PJ selling out, if you want an example of that, just look at the Smashing Pumpkins (or Billy Corgan, I should say).

When it comes to bedsheets... King size please!!! haha... ;)

Anyhow, for those that think rockband is a waste of time, I must say I agree and disagree... I have loved music all my life, but never had any interest in playing an instrument. My husband bought me guitar hero for my birthday last year, and I generally consider video games a waste of time. After a few reluctant tries I am now addicted! It has developed into a further interest for me to learn how to play the guitar "for real" and I signed myself up for lessons, which is inspiring my 8 year old son to pick up the guitar and learn as well! All I can say for this is that I wish I could vote myself, but being from North of the border, my say is apparently not valued! boo... Either way, I anxiously await the Pearl Jam project!!!

Seeing PJ fans making such a big stink about this is really disturbing...

Make all the money you want! Screw all these naysayers! I'm surprised they listen to PJ at all, since PJ is one of the most popular bands in the world. They can go listen to their music that nobody has heard of. Idiots!

Wow, I cannot believe there are so many haters out there. It's a video game for god's sake. Get over your righteous selves. Car racing games haven't eliminated Nascar, shooting and war games haven't eliminated guns or wars, so why the heck would Guitar Hero/Rock Band eliminate real music/musicians. I for one will be psyched to "play" Pearl Jam songs on Rock Band, and I think it's a cool that Pearl Jam and other big rock bands aren't acting like they are "too good" for this sort of thing. It's simply a new/fun way to listen to music. IT'S JUST FUN, PEOPLE. Thanks Pearl Jam for jumping on the RockBandwagon, I look forward to playing (and I hope you DO make a lot of money for it, since you write kick ass music and deserve it and do good things with your money).

I completely agree with you Ms. Goldenwords! Couldn't have said it any better!

All I'm saying is that aligning with Rhapsody and forcing the fans that want to vote to sign up for trial memberships is lame.

Pearl Jam in Rock Band will surely be enjoyable and fun, I just wish they could have made voting more fan-inclusive. Put in your credit card number and you too can vote on these songs!

In the end though, I guess the band has to partner with other companies to get the project done. Whatever works for em.

I can't comment on the voting procedure, but as far as putting PJ into Rock Band, I'm all for it! Those games are just downright fun, especially with a bunch of people, it gets incredibly addictive!

Looking forward to it!

US customers only = A joke ?!

Woah, some of you people really have the wrong idea about these games.

If anything, games like Rock Band and Guitar Hero encourage people that don't play to pick up an instrument. If they enjoy playing a simulation of a guitar, most are going to want to give the actual thing a try.

Another great thing about these games is that they provide another output for artists, introducing a younger generation to many bands that get little or no mainstream media attention these days.

These games are made with the intention of being fun to play and as a bonus they are opening people up to a wider variety of music and you would be foolish to think that they are bad for the future of music.

I'm looking forward to this, it will be a good laugh :D

Betterman from Det 2000 is that song's best version, check it out

poop

Wow After I saw GH Mettallica game I prayed Pearl Jam would do something like it and Now......... not only that I like rockband better then GuitarHero right on boys You Rule!!!! I'll buy one right now!!!!

Anywhere they have played Given to Fly!!!!

I'd really like to see In The Moonlight on the game... but I'm not sure if they've ever played that live... I LOVE that song, Matt Cameron is a musical genius!

Awww! I wish you were doing it for Guitar Hero rather than Rock Band. So many folks opted for the less expensive Guitar Hero and i believe it outsells Rock Band.

These games are great for getting new people into real music. My wife, who before playing the game, was only a top 40 listener. Now she has asked me for a few tips and has started playing my guitar. For the first time in my life i look like a guitar genius, even though i can only play 4 songs and am just getting my head around reading tabs! I am soooo psyched to get this game!

Guys, Rock Band is meant to be a fun, party game; it's not meant to be taken seriously. I'm looking forward to this!! Highly!

Do the Evolution
Champaign 4-23-03

How could you pick any other?

I think they should sell Mike's strat as a guitar for it!

I just told my wife how I'm using next year's vacation time!

I will always respect PJ's decisions. They support so many great things with their money so I can not really complain about that. I just I dunno....it just sux. It is just a step in the wrong direction. I know they will never let the music suffer like U2. I can almost gaurantee that they are not giving the green light for this shit. I don't mean to sound like this, but c'mon guys, nip this shit in the butt before it gets out of hand.

Rock Band is not the downfall of the music industry, American Idol is(so is Crunk music). Rock Band and GH do have positive effects on most people who play them and does not contribute to the evils of capitalism. In other words, it gets younger kids interested in playing music, plus introduced to great music like PJ, Metalica, and more classic rock (beats the bullshit out there today thanks to American Idol). It gets older adults, like nagging women who hate their spouses because they're always playing video games, into playing games and shows them they're not always a waste of time and can be fun.

On the flipside, yea, RB/GH are great ways for great bands, like Pearl Jam, to get their music out to people who wouldn't otherwise hear them. It beats caving-in to MTV and American Idol and whoever else to sell your soul so you can pay back your evil record industry loans.

That all said, I think they missed the boat by not having, 1. Daughter (It's OK) from The Gorge on the list and 2. Black from Benaroya Hall. In fact, no Gorge songs at all??? Must be a weird lock out or something. Those are like the Cadillac of PJ shows, in my opinion. And I understand listing maybe the same song from two nights in the same city, but THREE versions of the same song in the same city (Mansfield, Ma)! Ridiculous. Cheers!

oops

Actually, I'm not even sure Cadillac is the Cadillac of cars anymore. When I think of Cadillac, I think of Sandford and Son with the rear Bumper spacers torn out, not top of the line shit as the metaphor was trying to imply. How about, The Gorge shows are the "BMW" or "Aston Martin" of PJ shows or even the newer "Tesla" of PJ shows? There we go Tesla, a misunderstood, yet brilliant revolutionizing mind often overlooked and forgotten due to mainstream and commercial ideology; just like Pearl Jam!

this is the best news ive heard all week, all i have is kidny stones, and a pissed off boss, so thanks for the uplifter

its straight up for the fans.
they are even letting the fans vote.
wouldn't it be more selfish if they didn't include their songs on one of the most popular games of all time"?
I have video games but I love this game and look forward to being able to interact with my favorite bands music

US customers only :(

seems to me like this project was already done for every song ever played. Was done on one of the independent fan sites, it was a hugely exhaustive project and very successful with lots of fans involved, anybody remember that? Of course doing it over will be a new experience for fans who didnt work on the old one.

The haters are crazy... this is a dope fan service. If you go over to Harmonix's forums the Pearl Jam thread is one of the longest and has been for a while. While some of you twats might not like Rock Band it is popular and mainstream. Why is it so bad for this great band to get some coin before they retire? Don't they deserve it? I think so. Bring on more retail Pearl Jam, get rich boys, you got families now. I cant wait for this.

To all those who are ANTI-ROCK BAND/GUITAR HERO....

First, those games fuckin' rock :)

Second, it's another way to spread the jam as far as I'm concerned. This is simply another medium to expose music. And it's beautiful, beautiful Rock Music that they're trying to share with youngn's.

Think of that 9 year old playing Rock Band and becoming a fan. It's a good story. And it's very possible that the 9 year old may have never heard Pearl Jam if he didn't pick up that game.

I'm ALL FOR this.

I'm a big fan of the Rock Band / Guitar Hero games, and every time I pick up one of those plastic instruments, I think how great it would be to have a dedicated Pearl Jam version.

I've started learning guitar about 9 years ago, but gave up on it a few years back when my bridge inexplicably cracked in half. After reluctantly playing a game of Guitar Hero against my brother, I remembered the joy of getting the instrument to make the noises you wanted it to, and I started playing again.

I'm tired of fans who bitch and complain about their favorite bands "selling out." These guys have been putting out gold for what, 20 years now? I think they've earned their dues. I see absolutely nothing wrong with them trying to reach a larger audience by releasing their music on an interesting new interactive format.

I for one am thrilled, and can't wait to get back to the US to buy Rock Band 2 and every PJ song available.

As has already been pointed out, there is no way these kind of games are killing music as we know it. I have been a music fan all my life and have never ventured far from the rock/metal genre ever since I bought my first vinyl of Number of the Beast way back when. I now have a family of my own and my 5 year old will stop in his tracks if he hears any song that I have in a GH or RB game when we are out shopping. He is growing up loving rock music, playing RB and wanting a guitar and drums of his own. He recognises Tom Morello's guitar sound as soon as he hears it. How on earth can that be a bad thing? We should be grateful for that otherwise they are drip fed manufactured nonsense by egotistical, talentless people who want fame for fames sake.
If my son ever picks up a real guitar or sits behind his own drum kit as a result of me having this game then I think it had been worth it. It will mean that someone somewhere is still trying to make real music with real instruments and not just pushing a button on some computer program to produce a sound that sells

well, sounds nice but:

  • RB2 still is not available for wii in europe!
  • No Euro shows listed apparently.
  • Only US people can use Rapsody (regionalism is just as stupid as DRM.. and encourages piracy just as much)

so..euh..should I care?

and the best version discussion has been going on since the dawn of times and never got any closer to a consensus..so good luck..

I've listen to a lot of these shows since i have been a subscriber of rhapsody for about 5 years and have been to a couple of them myself. I would have to say the 6-16-08 show at Columbia, SC has the most fan participation and energy than any of them. Also being a Pearl Jam fan like most of you, rhapsody offers all of the bootlegs since 2003. I would think you guys wouldn't mind signing up to here 100+ concerts for $15 a month. At least for one month.

i think it's awesome. i've played rock band at friends houses but only own the guitar heros. i will be purchasing the rock band stuff when the Pearl Jam one gets released. thank goodness. Hated that there was an AC/DC one (can't stand this band-sorry) and no Pearl Jam. Now that is remedied, and with what the band is best at- live versions!

I think this is freakin awesome. Being a 36-year-old, my kids introduced me to Rock Band and now I am addicted. I purchased TEN for Rock band, and now those are the only songs that I play on it. As a child, my father always tried to teach me to play the guitar, but I never could get it, so I gave up. Now that Rock Band has been introduced to me, I was interested enough to take guitar lessons from my dad, so needless to say, now Daddy is proud :)

And the fact that the band is letting us choose our favorites is tooooo sweet. Another reason why I love this band sooooo much. They are so awesome, and time after time they have proven that they DO love their fans!!! I hope they keep up the great work (and hopefully they will still be playing at 70!!!) :D

No gripes EVER from me, PJ, my love for you will NEVER die!!!!!

It would be cool if there was a rockband where you actually play the instruments. That way in 10 years we will see all of these kids at the local Pub rockin out Pearl Jam because they learned it on rockband (the one you play with real instruments). Now that would be worth it.

Holy fucking shit!!!!!!!!

No complaints here about PJ jumping on the Rock Band bandwagon, it seems to be the way bands are reaching out to the next generation. Whatever.

However, there is and never will be a replacement for picking up real instruments and learning music. My six year old son has the whole Vs. album memorized, and even though he doesn't know the notes or chords, he sings and strums his accoustic guitar along with the band. It's pretty incredible. He doesn't need a video game.

My only major complaint is that I still haven't received my Holiday 2009 vinyl or the latest Deep issue. Is PJ spending too much time on peripheral projects and not enough time on member perks? I think so.

But good work PJ on reaching out to faithful/dedicated fans for ideas and input: Ten tee shirt contest, Rock Band song selection, poster design, etc. It's a great way of keeping fans involved and up-to-speed with the latest and greatest.

Peace everyone......and hey PJ: It has been a long time since you have been to Utah! Hope to see you here soon!!

No kidding. This seems really out of character.

Oh, bummer...I just bought Guitar Hero! lol. Oh, well...

I agree, this is for the fans. In this case, more exposure is better.

On a side note, I purchased tix for the PJ show in Chicago in August through the fan club (first time). How good can I assume the seats to be, since the seats are not revealed until I get there? Anyone have experience with this?

My daughter gave me Guitar Hero for Christmas last year. Im almost an expert on medium. Pearl Jam on Rock Band ****LIVE**** what a 48 year old kid I am. I want a Pearl Jam Bandana.

HELL YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

I can´t wait!!!!!

All the 'release' songs dont work fyi

FUCK ROCK BAND, GO BUY A REAL INSTRUMENT AND SIT IN A DARK ROOM AND LEARN TO PLAY IT. IT WILL TAKE YEARS FOR IT TO SOUND AS GOOD AS IT DOES IN 30 MIN. PRACTICE ON ROCK BAND.

THE WORST......JUST TERRIBLE, WHAT HAS MUSIC COME TO. IS THIS REALLY THE ONLY WAY TO GET GOOD MUSIC OUT TO PEOPLE.

THE MUSIC INDUSTRY HAS IMPLODED ON ITSELF, WHICH IS NOT A BAD THING. IT JUST MEANS YOU HAVE TO SEARCH FOR REAL MUSIC, GOOD MUSIC. IT IS KIND OF LIKE A HUNT FOR TREASURE.

TRY LISTENING TO THE BLACK LIPS OR JAY REATARD........

BY THE WAY PJ IS MY FAVORITE BAND AND I STILL RESPECT THEIR DECISIONS. HOWEVER, I KNOW FOR A FACT THIS IS NOT THEIR DECISION. GO BUY YOUR KID ROCKBAND AND WATCH HIM GET FAT AND OUT OF SHAPE WHILE TAPPING PLASTIC BUTTONS............TRAVESTY

Lame. Really, really lame.

Way to promote the idea of sitting on your arse, staring at a TV, poking plastic buttons.

Green Disease, indeed....I guess PJ doesn't have enough money already, huh?

Weak.

Pretty lame vision of where they think their music should go....in my opinion

I'm passing out chill pills. Who wants one?

I know this is a stretch, but I really hope someone from PJ sees and yanks the project. I know they are pissed deep down even if they will not show it.

I'm positively overwhelmed by the thought of having 42 songs to sing with Ed's course voice and PJ jamming like no tomorrow with Rockband. (Though, I do understand others' reservations about the corporate influence of the endeavor.)

Nevertheless, would TC consider having the annual fan club contest be a video of us wee little people performing a song on Rockband???? I can picture it now...three cameras set up, lighting...the works! Oh, and the winner can perform the song with PJ at a venue near their home and hang out with the band after wards ... ahem to enjoy some "herbal" substances? Any takers?

you are beat

Why is everyone bitching about this? Rock Band is the best way to reach the younger audience and stop those clowns from listening to crap. Look at the top 40. Do you want your kid to come to you and ask for the new Flo Rida or have him ask for this great band he just heard on Rock Band?

I've been playing real guitar for 15 years and love playing rock band. My son is 6 and plays the drums on rock band and now wants his own real drum kit. I think this gets more people into music.

If you are bitching about this, you probably have never played the game before. I made fun of guitar hero before actually trying it. I wish Pearl Jam would make there whole catelog available.

If this was a sell out, i guess the unplugged, vh1 storytellers and dvds are too. Damn them for trying to reach a new generation of PJ fans.

real music is a lot different than plastic instruments that completely take the art and beauty out of music. This is the kind of stuff that is ruining music!!!! ARE YOU PEOPLE BLIND......

I didn't see anything from the 07-11-03 Mansfield, MA pre set. Would have been great to have some of the acoustic songs.

Rockband is not about exposing PJ to a new generation of fans...it is about $$ - dirty capitalistic $$. It is VERY disappointing. Video games are just part of what is wrong with young people today. I see the ones that make it to college and it is scary. Be afraid...

Hey all, I love a good discussion
Rock band I feel is just another video game that is equal to that hand held game from the seventies SIMON SAYS but a little more advanced.
I agree to some point where learning five colored notes in 4 different difficulty levels will get you hand cramps. I also think the game is a genius idea. 20 year old rock & roll have never reached so many young people before. Just look at the download music sales from guitar hero and rock band. They are in the billions! and kids and young adults LOVE IT. ON THE OTHER HAND... IF I WERE TO INVEST ALL THOSE HOURS IN TRYING TO COORDINATE MY HAND TO EYE TO EAR TRICK I MIGHT AS WELL INVEST ALL THOSE HOURS LEARNING A REAL GUITAR.
Check out this link below of what I said is true about a real guitar. Id rather post this on YOUTUBE then me conquering Through the FIre and Flames on expert mode. KUDOS to VANZEPPLIN77

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cptH89itSO8

You agree?
All you need bro is a cheap amp an inexpensive tuned electric guitar! Or if you prefer drums or bass
second hand stuff is great for practice. MAYBE PEARL JAM HAS SECOND HAND STUFF THEY WILL SELL TO THEIR FAN CULB MEMBERS??? YA HEAR ME MIKE, JEFF, STONE

Pharaohs Son

You guys sound like a bunch of old grumpy hippies. God forbed someone have fun singing along to there favorite Pearl Jam songs. Some people just dont have the talent or the rhythm to play real instruments. And to say that this is whats wrong with music today. I believe new music sucked 5 years ago before Rockband. That's why the only new music i listen to is brit bands like arctic monkeys, kooks and muse.

That is actually not true. I thought the same thing but music sales have increased for the artists featured in these types of games and guitar center has also said their guitar sales have increased dramatically mostly from younger kids due to these games. I think that this is a great way to help kids feel a connection to music in a way they may not have experienced. If this helps more people to experience and enjoy Pearl Jams music who might not have any other way then how could that be a bad thing?

It appears this is going to be an ongoing argument............

Thanks for comments

Yes it is a way for kids to connect with music but a good way? I don’t know? My daughter is an English teacher and she says any way to get a kid to learn is a good way.

I don’t know what part is not true? Sales for artists, music download sites, music stores and video game retailers all have benefited from these games but I do not link all of the steep sales increases to the influence of Rock Band and Guitar Hero. In my experience my kid’s connection to music started at 15-18 when they looked up the lyrics to the rock that I listened to. This made believers out of them. There tastes in music switched from pop (britney m&m rap a gogo) to classic and pre classic rock. They now know the difference between a drum kit and a drum machine? The dffrence betwen a made pop star and an unsung artist. They felt lied to after finding out the truth about the music business. I still have a difficult time explaining to them TICKET MASTER and the commerse involved. bt anyway tThey always heard Pearl Jam in the back-ground growing up in the 90s but never knew what Ed was saying until now. They learned the lyrics; except for yellow Ledbetter (I say this with a giggle)
Hey I like the game myself as well as my two daughters who are 24 and 26 years old. I believe the phenomena in the increase in 80's, 90's rock music as well as guitar and drum sales is that this generation of kids have parents from the rock era generation. They found our cherished vinyl’s in the back of the closet in the time capsules we created. When discovered, the older sound of rock was now embedded in their heads with renewed desires in music. What did we discover in our parent’s time capsules, Guy Lombardo Lots of Country Western stuff, Playboy, European Polkas? I wish I was 15 growing up in the 90's. My daughters used to say eeew look at Paul McCartney and Mick Jagger. After a 20 minute exercise in rock history they now can’t wait for their concerts...still after all these years.

Just Rambling

G.C.

thats funny RH !

To all my critics
Whats more exciting than Pearl Jam and Rock Band is that Cassette
Player on the main page. Wonder if they have an 8 track player to with a book of matches under the tape.

wow so many pj fans bitching is sad , anything to do with pearl jam is ok in my book's

I think if the music is good enough people will find it, with or without TV shows, video games, or ringtones. When I hear music featured like that I immediately think of the medium it's presented. So to new listeners it's now "that rock band song". It doesn't have the same depth anymore. I think it'll end up being a disservice to the "younger generation", I'm part of that generation myself. It really changes things once it gets to the point when the songs are overplayed and you think of a game or phone commercial or TV show upon hearing it.

Absolutly mhterrapin

The musical and lyrical emotion behind every PJ creation should not be tarnished by greed.

thank you mhterrapin..........finally, exactly my point. I dont want this beautiful music tainted..........10 years from now, some punk will be like oh yeah, i know that song, its on rock band1!!..........ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, if hes next to me, i will end him

I get the same thing, when I click RVM all I get is Wash. Also disappointed there is no Yellow Ledbetter, Verona, Italy, now that is a good version.

If they want to do Rock Band, cool. They've been moving in that direction, with their songs on TV shows, the high priced Ten box set, etc. My guess is that this is all happening because Ed Vedder gave up his dictatorship. But I could be wrong. At least they aren't yet singing in car commercials or appearing underwear ads (it's probably too late for the latter). Maybe they should finally release a video for Black...

But I wonder about the people who think this is a good idea because it might lead a kid to pick up a real instrument. For decades kids have been picking up real instruments because of music, not because of video games. This is like hoping your kid takes up baseball not because you and he watched an actual game, but because he plays MLB The Show. That's pretty weak, I think (but again I could be wrong).

I absolutely cannot understand all the negativity here. If you don't like Rock Band, fine. Don't play it. No big deal.

I'm not even going to tackle the "Selling Out" argument, because it's silly and overplayed.

As far as this concept of "cheapening the music"? Are people serious about this? I don't understand how featuring music in a game tarnishes the music itself. How others perceive a particular song should have no effect on how it affects you. Songs have different meanings for all of us. Hearing Black 10 years ago changed my life from listening to pop music to opening my eyes to all genres. If my little cousin hears my LO2L CD and calls Black "that rock band song", it's not going to change anything. It still means something.

Being a die-hard fan of PJ for quite a few years now, I understand the fanaticism about the music. I don't understand why people are so protective of it. It's not "our music". The band makes it for themselves and for everyone that wants to hear it.

All in all, I think this is neat and I look forward to seeing the final product.

POINT TAKEN... "LIKE SPINNING PLATES"

1. I have zero desire to learn to play a real guitar.

2. Playing Pearl Jam songs on Rockband is fun as hell.

Case closed.

I bought a video game because of Rock Band!
And with 30 y.o. I bought my first real guitar and started to take lessons because of Rock Band too!

Being able to play my favorite band songs (for FUN) with friends that don´t play (and don´t want to play) real instruments is just AWESOME.

The bad thing in all this situation, is that we´ll have to wait til next year! I just can´t wait!

Thank you Pearl Jam!

The negativity in here is out of control. I been a Pearl Jam fan since Ten came out when I was 11 years old and you people(the negative) make me sick. If bands didn't want to make money or anyone with talent for that matter they'd do it for free. Do you really think these guys are scraping buy year to year. Its called a career. For all of the people who think they are better than this maybe you need to check yourself. maybe the band itself has grown up and decided being more commercial and expanding isn't a bad thing. Pearl Jam is for everyone not just you assholes!

la da de la da da...

Music takes on a life of its own. Pearl jam created it and has decided to set it free. There's nothing wrong with that. The more ways to access pearl jam the better I say. Whether it's radio, tv, internet, or yes even video games. People seem to be missing the most important part of this whole deal with ROCK BAND. Pearl Jam is doing us all a solid by giving us an alternative to just listening to their music. No more air guitar or air drums for me, and you know you've all done it. Bring on ROCK BAND via Pearl Jam. True Pearl Jam fans know better than to even insinuate that Pearl Jam did this deal for the Money. They obviously did yet another good turn with their fans in Mind. Long Live PJ.

I can appreciate people's feelings of disapoitment with this new game, but as a guy who grew up listening to PJ while playing WAY too many video games.

THIS IS BAD ASS!

There are too many reasons to list, but let me say just say this. I wanted a guitar so I could play "ship song" (Nick Cave cover from my bootleg of the Red Rocks show in '95) I can play a guitar, not that great, but enjoy to have fun.

This has WAY more benefits than the "sellout" image. Selling out to me, is when I hear "given to fly" on a Toyota commerical!

Two VERY LARGE PLEAS!

1) Where the hell is yellow ledbetter?

If you need a version, the first live version from the daughter single I think would work just fine!

2) PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE - Jeremy remix from the '95 Red Rocks Show!

Dear God and all things holy and pure, this is why I bought $50 bootlegs like baseball card as a kid.

Thanks!

I'm so flippin happy about this, I can't wait.

Me <-- just short side of 40 and fan of the band since the beginning.

Me <-- zero musical talent... but tons of music appreciation. Especially for my favorite rock band ever.

And now... I get to channel my own Stone, Jeff, Mike, Matt, or Eddie. How awesome is that?

Rockband and Guitar Hero have been wonderful mediums for me to enjoy PJ in a different way.

Truth be told we had a 'no video games' in our house two years back, but then I heard PJ was releasing one or two songs on the Xbox. Purchase made. Fast forward to this february and 10 comes out on RockBand. Done.

Fact is that both RockBand and GH have simply been FANTASTIC introductions to cool music to my two young girls (10&7). They've enjoyed pounding the skins (on 'easy' mind you) as we play Black together.... Frankly, it's a Dad's dream! They've enjoyed playing Alice Cooper, ACDC, the WHO! No Hannah Montana when we're rocking out in the basement.

There's absolutely nothing but positive in this announcement. I CAN'T WAIT for this set. Sign me up now.

Finally, I think there is way to much negativity on here and the Pit.... everyone should sit back and enjoy the ride. Life's too short, and far too precious.

Don't it make you Smile?

Lighten up people, holy shit...

First of all, Rock Band is fun as hell, having a PJ Rock Band is going to be bad ass. Playing the game has already introduced me to music that I wouldn't have sat down to listen to otherwise, AND it's turned me on to learning to play the drums (real drums)... HOW IS THIS BAD???

The music industry that we grew up with is in shambles, at this point bands are having to get their music out there in whatever means they feel like trying. Believe it or not, as huge as PJ is, there ARE people out there (a lot of young people) who have not had a whole lot of exposure to this band... that's horrible, yes. This is a great way to get the music to them, because, lets face it, the radio stations suck, at least they do here in Indiana, so you can't count on them to actually play something worth getting into... Rock Band is a way to get more people exposed to the music, and it even inspires some people to start playing a real instrument. So again, HOW IS THIS BAD???

I'm just glad the band isn't stuck-up about this kind of thing... like some people apparently would be...

It's Funny how when we were younger our testosterone levels were some how responcible for our behavoir. Now that the fuel that drove us is depleating it some what has changed our philosophy and desires. Things seem so much clearer now. Things that were so important to me then are so much now. What is most important now is charity...at least for me. PJ's lyrics have a new defined meaning to me now then so many years ago.

Molta pace ed ama to PJ e la Famiglia!

P.S. I wish the 10 club would re-release the bootleg of the 1995 Red Rocks Show in CO.
I think it is one of the most inovative concerts to date. The alternative Jeremy is genius as well as Falling Down. Stone is one groovy cat when he gets his funky on.

JUST rambling

Man I hope Jeff is alright. Those f-ing parasites!

Why is there no love for No Code in this list? I see Lukin, Present Tense, and Red Mosquito. So the album's not ignored. For those of us that prefer the rock band drums, I'd love to see some of the more rhythmic stuff like Who You Are or In My Tree on this list. Plus, no Hail Hail? This live version for a Pearl Jam-themed game is a great idea and a good twist to the Rock Band catalogue, but I wish there was some more from No Code in there.

This song is not on the list, but, it was done live in Hawaii 2006. It would be great if the band considered adding "Hawaii 78" to the set-list. I thought Eddie did a great job with the Hawaiian. Of course the world wide exposure would be phenomenal and most welcomed.

Everyone has an opinion don't they? I've read several that basically say PJ is selling out to this video game, which is ridiculous. If you can't see the good in expanding the Pearl Jam "brand" then there is no way I can help you. If you can't see the good of bringing more youth into the Pearl Jam "brand" through a video game, then there is surely no way I can help you!

So I can not vote for Rearview Mirror or Wishlist, the player just pulls up several versions of Wash. I was interested to see which options they have for those two songs as they are some of PJ's better live songs.

BTW the San Antonio version of Black has a ripping guitar solo and would be awesome for the game. I also like the Hartford 08 version of Brain of J, sweet! Can't wait to play this game.

Their is absolutly nothing PJ can do to make me NOT love them or their music.
Nothing but UNconditional love and respect for them and their music.
They are a once in a lifetime experience. Love them while they are still here.

Present Tense

Pharaohs Son

What's with all this "US only"? Do Europeans get their own setlist and their own version of the game or what?

porch montreal 10-4-00

Yes!! I have been waiting for something like this!

Why do people constantly bash Rock Band and Guitar Hero? If anything these games provide exposure for bands and make kids want to learn how to play the real thing. Nobody actually believes that if you can play 5 buttons on GH or Rockband then you won't want to create your own music with real instruments. Its a game. Its fun to play. By some of the logic stated above, if you play Madden 09 then in 10 years there will never be an NFL.

If you have a problem with these games then shut up and don't play them.

Have to vote for DTE in Champaign, IL. They opened with that song. How rare is that? That show reminds me of the Grand Rapids show. Great sound and a great crowd.

Rhapsody is also a cool concept. If you get the subscription and the MP3 player it is compatible with it makes it worthwhile. Cause you are just paying a flat fee a month. So if you listen to as much music as I do it is affordable because you are not paying per song. Then they add the complete PJ boot series.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE...I am begging all of you that are going to vote, DO NOT play the usuals, i.e.: Jeremy, Alive, Black, etc, all the songs that we have all heard and seen a million times in concert. The only exception may be Evenflow because the solo always is kick-ass!!! I want this game to have songs that are not as well known to the masses. Thanx a million!

I whole-heartedly agree with you, so glad to see someone else saying exactly what I was thinking! I'd much rather be hearing more from the more recent albums; if I could choose which albums to focus on, I would say everything from Vitalogy or No Code on to the Avacado album. Regardless though, I'm sure this game will kick ass!

There is a problem with the "Release" songs. "Wash" comes up instead. Man, the opportunity to sing in Rockband to "Release" - oh God.

Rhapsody just told me that my 25 streaming songs just ended and now I'm limited to 30 seconds if I don't "upgrade." So much for the public media rating system....

JD186830 "Release" is already on Rock Band with the rest of Ten. Vote for all Columbia SC songs. Great crowd although Eddie does let the crowd sing a lot of the songs, not sure how that would do on Rock Band.

FN'A this is AWESOME!!!!

I would like queen size PJ bed sheets please :D

No Porch? Best rendition i have ever heard is that of the magnusson park concert....gotta get that on the video game!

This is pretty cool. Too bad it's only for those in the US.

Columbia, SC songs are GREAT! Especially "Why Go."

All right, I am sad to admit this but, I had a friend who thought that the Who covered Limp Bizkit's "Behind Blue Eyes". If there's one thing that can be said about Rock Band it's this: It educates. I'm not saying that after completing the game on "Hard" or "Expert" you will be able to pick up a guitar and play flawlessly, but my 13 year old cousin is now listening to some of the great songs that Rock Band has on its setlist. I downloaded the Who's song pack and it opened up the eyes of my band's bassist to just how amazing John Entwistle was. I have played guitar since I was 13 and I love these games because I have "played" songs by bands I hardly know and that made me look up more and more of their stuff.

OMG, Someone upstairs has been listening...i have said a zillion times "Rock Band would be so much cooler if it was JUST Pearl Jam songs" LMAO..Best news ive heard for a while!! :)
Yipeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!

I love PJ. But what a bunch of sell outs. Fuck I must be getting older. I knew the day would be coming when something like this would happen. What's next a Cheerio's commercial or is "alive" going to be played in the background of the next Nissan Pathfinder commercial? I heard a rumor that Eddie Vedder will be on Americal Idol this next season. Look it up.
