Pearl Jam and Target have partnered with eco-friendly clothing designer, Loomstate, to create a limited-edition Pearl Jam Backspacer t-shirt to be sold in select Target stores and online at Target.com starting now.
All proceeds benefit Feeding America, the nation’s leading domestic hunger-relief charity. The limited-edition shirts were made in the USA and are 100 % organic cotton. The front of the t-shirt features Backspacer artwork from renowned cartoonist Tom Tomorrow.
In addition to the t-shirt partnership, Pearl Jam will donate $1 per paid ticket from their two hometown shows to Feeding America affiliate, Food Lifeline. Target will match this donation.

"The opportunity to create awareness for America’s hunger problem with the legendary band Pearl Jam got our attention. For Loomstate this echoes nourishment, clever solutions and shared community.”
- Scott Mackinlay Hahn, Loomstate founder/president

how could you not want the shirt after reading that leading post?
Shirt looks great, will definitely pick one up!
WHAT ABOUT THE INTERNATIONAL FANS ? WHERE ARE OUT ?
I am buying two for sure.
want one but i get paid on monday, hope there not out by then
Yep, I will be getting one of those on Sunday morning in Arizona!
I wish the Target around here was selling it. The closest one is 2 hours away and it would be my luck if I drove that far they would be sold out.
I really want one and the nearest Target that sells it is 90 minutes away :( I have no way to get there...that really sucks!!!
i was actually headed to target tomorrow anyway, nice !!
I really want one and the nearest Target that sells it is 90 minutes away :( I have no way to get there...that really sucks!!!
im sure they will be online shortly
what is the price of this t shirt??
Cool! 3 Target's in my town (Columbus, OH area) will have them!
Yep, gonna have to go get one or two tomorrow-sooo excited to listen to Backspacer!!! :)
Got BACK SPACER already thru 10c. It will blow your mind
Went to Target in Chicago today and they didn't even have it. Didn't even know what was going on.....
Yeah, Target dropped the ball on this one...didn't have it in southern Cal...
No shirts at the listed Target in NE Ohio.
Called the three Targets in Las Vegas about the shirt, they had no idea what was going on. Tried to buy it online, it doesn't even come up in search results at all, sold out or otherwise. Target has no clue what's going on. One of them I went to didn't even have Backspace, seemed confused when I asked them about it. Kept redirecting me to the greatest hits Cd's.
it is not online
Out of the two Targets in Lexington KY, only one has them. Got there early thinking there would be a line. There wasn't. We planned on buying several as gifts. They said there was a limit of one per person so we had to go home and get our kids and go back. The Target people were total jerks! It was pouring rain but we ended up with 6 shirts so it's all good. They only had 3 XLs in stock and no smalls. The shirts are good quality so the hassle was definitely worth it. You people are right; Target does not have their act together. Just glad we scored!!!!
Got MY shirts, and the 10c CD. Took the target CD that you have to buy with the shirt back to a different store and got my money back and kept the shirt haha. BACKSPACER rocks
Target is clueless! I was told they didn't have the shirts and that "people had been calling all morning". I told them their store was listed on the web site as having the shirts. Finally they checked their computer and went in back, coming out with a very small box. When she opened it there were only about 25 shirts inside! She said that was all they got, so I quickly grabbed two. Had I not been informed and persistent the shirts would still be sitting in their receiving area! Not good press for Target!
So you are responsible for me not getting a shirt! Went to the Target at Hamburg here in Lexington KY and was told some family managed to get 6 shirts instead of the one per person (Target employees words, not mine). I was pissed - mainly at Target more than anything. They only got 4-6 shirts of each size and only had 3 Mediums and 2 Larges when I arrived around 11:00 AM. Managed to have a friend of mine get an XL at one of the Louisville stores, but was definitely not impressed with how Target handled things. At least my store did have knowledgable employees, however.
It's cool & all Target is getting all these exclusive goodies. The Pearl Jam Rock Band Discs, CD's, T-shirts etc.. but why can't any fan, any shopper, any soul living outside the USA, not aloud to buy any of these items online @ target.com? That's just sad! :(
Please, for the next record if you make it exclusive again, please let that store able to ship goods .. outside the USA.
Thanks!
I called my nearby Target in SoCal and spent 15 minutes being bounced from department to department before finding the t-shirts in electronics. Most employees were clueless but the guy in electronics was helpful and is even holding a couple of t-shirts for me.
Here in Columbus Ohio I went to one of the 3 stores in the area that had them and found them on the counter in the electronics/music/video dept. I didn't get there until after noon and they still had a 4 or 5 of each size there (not sure if that was all they had or what). In any case I picked up 2 of the XL size. They are really nice shirts. I love the material.
Demetrios> There are a number of these shirts for auction on eBay already. Search ebay using the keywords pearl jam shirt
The shirts are $20.
I went to the Ft.Lauderdale, Florida store...the closest one to me in Miami..The kid said there were people from all over south florida there, and they sold out right away..Not hard to believe cos THEY ONLY HAD 15 SHIRTS! For the whole of south florida! Target is not the only one who dropped the ball 10C..15 shirts?!?!
I know it's supposed to be limited edition, but this is for charity, selling an average of 15-25 shirts at each store is not nearly doing the most you can for this charity..
The Target in Carmel,IN didn't have it and had no idea what I was talking about. I had my sister-in-law call the Target in Southern IN and they didn't have it either. They told her it was only available online, however, it is not available at Target.com. :-( I was hoping to have a PJ shirt to wear to the Kings of Leon concert Friday night!!
Go to the small electronics section where they sell the CDs, videogames, cameras, etc. I called ahead and the first guy I talked to wasn't aware they even had them, but luckily there was another guy there who said the box of t-shirts was in the photos dept. next door to the small electronics dept. They were nice enough to put a couple of t-shirts on hold for me. They had none in size small, got the only two Mediums (sorry!), they had tons in size Large.
I don't think they had any in size small. The store I got mine from just had them in M, L and XL. Also, I don't see any S size on eBay either.
how are we supposed to know what size to get from ebay, especially cos you can't exactly just return them and exchange for another size..and I'm also frustrated that there aren't any smalls on there cos that is likely the size I need...
this sucks.
I'm showing up at the store first thing today anyways cos this page says they are being sold *starting* on the 20th..and the folks at the store kept saying they might get another shipment the next day, they weren't sure (they initiated telling me, I didn't ask..)
I mean, surely 10C knew that 15-25 shirts were going to sell out the same day at each store...I wrote to them about it to cos it just isn't right..The kid said around 50 people had already showed up looking for it before me..and I got there pretty early in the day..who knows how many came later..I wish I would have thought to call and ask them to hold one for me like others on here..I just figured they'd say no..
anyone have luck finding shirt on Target.com ?? see cd and vinyl but no t-shirt.
Went to the Target in North Wales, PA lady said we only had 3 or 4. Then went to Plymouth Meeting they didn't have them out yesterday nor today no clue what I was talking about. The target employees are half re-tards, missing half their teeth, and have dropped out of high school. Can't believe PJ would sell the album exclusively through Target but hey that way they can get the album to go Platinum in 1 day because Target has paid for all of em.....Wasted tons of gas looking for a tee-shirt that won't even fit.
just to give a little information on the shirts to those who were asking. the shirts run small. so if you usually buy medium, go large, small go medium, etc. (this is for whoever was getting them on ebay.
also, the shirts are 20 bucks. annnnnd... only $5 go to feeding america. they are very cheap shirts. the stitching is weird on them and they seem like they will fade/get full of holes in no time. for this reason, i did not buy one.
i would rather donate 5 dollars to feeding america and then buy a different shirt off tenclub lol...but thats just me
that being said, i'm all for limited edition PJ stuff but this was not even worth it in my opinion.
this was not meant to tell people not to buy a shirt, it's definitely a good cause to support and PJ as always is awesome for doing this kind of stuff. i just wanted to let some people know what they are getting before they start paying 40 bucks on ebay for a shirt or driving hours to find a target that has one.... you might be better off just donating the money on the feeding america website.
new album is fucking amazing btw.
cheers.
thanks so much for taking the time to give us that info..it is very very appreciated. I lucked out, myself. Another target down here decided to not put them out yesterday, for whatever reason, they are selling them tomorrow..I will be there at the crack ass of dawn this time..I'm buying it as a collectors item, not for wearing..At least now I know which size to make a bee-line for LoL..
No luck in Texas still. I really wanted to do my part for PJ and Feeding America. Maybe tomorrow?
I agree with most of the posts. Target has dropped the ball on this one. Hell, there were even a couple of Target stores in my area that didn't even have the new CD out on the shelves on release date. All of the employees I spoke with at the stores were totally clueless. Even when I gave the Customer Service person the upc for the XL limited edition t-shirt (thanks for the info. eBay) and they looked it up (6 on hand)the store said they didn't have any. I went to the next Target by my house, skipped the customer service desk and wandered over to the Electronics Dept. only to find a box of them sitting at the photo counter.
Got mine in Phillipsburg NJ today, they seemed to have about 5 of each size (M,L,XL) left on display. Nicely put together displays. Shirts are $19.99. I agree with posts, they need to make more available, or make them available online for 10 clubbers. Maybe a Limited Edition CD/T-Shirt package deal option next time for people who pre-order?
Here is the story in Metro Detroit...I live in the western suburbs and out of 5 Targets that are all within a 15 miles of me, onl;y the Livonia store was listed (more are on the list but much further away). I went in at lunch yesterday and saw a shirt next to the register with a "hold for" sticky note on it...yes the register in the electronics dept. After reading everyones' posts, I looked over the counter and sure as shit there are two small boxes of these things..only one open and still full. I grabbed the kid and told hom what I needed and he had no idea... pointed them out and was completely lost...figures wasn't a PJ fan (said he always lumped them together with the STP's of the world..ugh). Anyway, no problem getting a medium here and I could've bought both boxes based on how clueless this kid was...but I took my one shirt and walked away with a smile :)
and I would also add that the shirt is not cheap...it's a very, very soft and thin cotton shirt...very much like an ed hardy t. It's slim fitting and has contrasting white stitching. It's not a nasty thick Hanes Beefy t, nor should it be...it's more of a retro style.
I picked one up today at target in saugus,ma. they didn't have any XL, and I noticed target doesn't have XL available online either, so i just bought the large.
a few people already made this point, but the shirts do run small. I'm not very big and the large is definitely too small on me.
hopefully at some point i can get my hands on an XL.
Just bought mine at target.com. Too bad they didn´t ship directly to Chile. Had to do it through a friend in the states.
Thanks for the tip on the size! I was going to buy medium, and bought large instead.
Finally scored! After many phone calls and trips back and forth because people didn't have a f'n clue, I purchased the last three shirts in Texas. Can anyone say supply and demand? I think everyone is right about the cluster f*ck with this. I mean, it wasn't only a PJ shirt, it was a chance to make a charitable donation to a good cause. Why did they sell out in an hour? But all in all I'm thrilled to have my super soft and comfy, cool shirt. And my two PJ friends think I hung the moon now! So guess I can't complain too much...
Anybody know why online doesn't have um? Don't feel like wasting gas to get one? Also went to a local record shop in Wisconsin and asked about bonus with the CD of BS and you get a poster why no ORANGE vinyl. Glad I got the Record coming!
That suck's.....Target doesn't ship overseas... :(
I got mine yesterday at the West Palm Beach store..I'm so glad they decided to wait to put those out, and even gladder that I tried calling them just to see....
I think they run big..is it just a miami thing? Maybe everything here runs even smaller than these shirts..Cos I'm normally a medium, and the med. I got of this shirt is slightly big on me..oh well, I'm happy..got one for wearing and one to keep as a collactable..and I agree about the material, I love shirts like this..the thick ones always wear funny on me cos with thicker shirts the fabric coming from the underarm area sticks out funny cos of having a larger chest..I don't know why girls want bigger boobs, it looks terrible in most clothes..
Here's what I don't get:
Why is this "limited" ? You wanna give money to charity, right? Let me give you a secret: The more shirts you sell, the more money you'll be able to give to the charity :D
See, isn't that a great idea?
Make some more shirts please?
On top of that, your noble idea of helping charities is completely lost among the countless "$39.99 buyitnow" ebay auctions now. You think any of those people will give one red cent to that charity? I doubt it!
I gotta admit, I tried to get one at my target (no chance) I also failed to find one on target online. So I did the lame thing and dropped 38 bucks on 1 from ebay. What can I say, the shirt spoke to me man.
I was lucky to find the shirt in East LA... Hell ya!!! 100% organic cotton and all. Good job PJ. See all you Angelinos at the show next week!!!
I bought my t-shirt at target.com with a estimated delivery on september 30. Today I received this e-mail from target.com
We wanted to let you know that there is a delay with one or more items
in the order you placed on September 22 2009
Please accept our apologies for this delay.
The new delivery estimate is November 16, 2009!!!
This sucks.
yup, what about them? I would like to order that t-shirt but it will not ship even to UK :/
I don't know how long this has been up but there available on Target's website now. Getting mine now.
Great I just got mine today in the afternoon, it's pretty sweet, liked a lot!
