Be there or be Square
Jeff Beck plays on the same day as PJ - here's hoping they will do some songs together.
I was just going to write this when I saw it. That's a magical day.
little confused why PJ is playing at this festival
but okay
but okay
It's just called Jazzfest because it's in New Orleans. It is an unbelievable good time and they usually have some big names play every year.
never been there, i am looking at tickets and basically you can buy a 1 day ticket that is good for any of the 4 days on the second weekend of the festival. I wonder how it works if everyone wants to use their ticket on the same date? May have to really get there early or is it just a huge venue that can accommodate a really large crowd. sounds like a good excuse to get out of town and catch some PJ!
It is a huge venue.
That's such great news!!! I was really worried they'd be playing on Sunday night and I wouldn't be able to go.
NOLA here I come...going to purchase my one day tickets now.
Where is the best place to stay-French Quarter? I've never been to New Orleans, but this is a great excuse to check out the city and take in the food and culture.
I will travel all the way from Costa Rica and they advised me at the NOJazzFest organization that Down Town area hotels are better, long walking distance from the venue.
You can look up hotels using the venue's address (1751 Gentilly Boulevard) but, let me tell you, I am having a hard time finding anything, it's all booked around there. Good luck!
Yes, the best place to stay is anywhere in the French Quarter area. If you are within a few blocks of the French Quarter you will be good.

I would advise you to not search for hotels based on the venue's location. It's not the best part of town. In my opinion search for hotels in the French Quarter, Warehouse District, and Business District.
I've stayed here before and they have some vacancies. http://www.ambassadorneworleans.com/
OK, so I'm on msn & reading some review of the Who from last night's Superbowl performance. In the article it talks about a thwarted Who tour, but they were planning on playing Coachella(?) and the New Orleans Jazz Fest..... Really....not exactly sure if that's a rumor or a misunderstanding or Townshend wishful thinking. But, wouldn't it be cool if it was Saturday :)
Oh, and I was having a hard time finding a French Quarter room back at the beginning of January. Warehouse District is nice, Garden District nice too, but further away from venue.
Best of luck~
See ya there!!
Thank you!!! Hopefully I'll be able to find transportation to the venue after I can book a decent hotel around the area you are suggesting!
Saw this online and thought I would share the info.
The Fair Grounds Race Course is located at 1731 Gentilly Boulevard, just minutes from downtown and the French Quarter. However, the immediate area around the site will be off-limits to most vehicular traffic. Convenient bus service on the Esplanade route will take festival-goers to within walking distance of the festival gates, as will shuttle bus service from various park-and-ride lots and other convenient pick-up points around the city.
For a scenic route to the festival you can take the Canal Street Streetcar line, transfer to the North Carrollton Avenue branch and take it to the end at City Park. From there the festival is about a half-mile walk down Esplanade Avenue. Follow the crowd and you can’t miss it.
NO rooms available in NOLA city due to large medical convention same dates:(
I was thinking there were rooms but the jazzfest website hasn't been updated. That sucks.
can't wait to be there guys!
flying across the ocean
thought belfast was going to be my first pj concert, i guess i was wrong.
just can t wait!!!
Expedia and Orbitz are offering rooms however far from the venue. I've been told that major brand hotels do have transportation services to the fest area during those days... I'll let you know what I can book...
Finally... nothing fancy but it's the best I could get for less than US$360 per night :S... good reviews, easy transportation out of there... just in case it works for someone else. Reservation can be cancelled way earlier w/o cost. Good Luck!
