yep. count me in on the corduroy thing.
Great album indeed. Definitely their best in terms of album art/layout. In the 1st few months i spent as much time looking at that little book as i did listening to the music. Stupid mop is haunting; especially under the influence. not an "in the car"song
but I think it gets knocked down a few notches in the eyes of the public at large because of Bugs, Pry To, and Heyfoxymophandlemamma. I always wondered why they chose to put those tracks on the album.
The best Pearl Jam album ever. The best album ever. Stunning.
Ten was good, but Pearl Jam is special because the music has evolved. They have become more mature without losing that sense of tear-it-up rock n' roll, which has always amazed me. Ten is good for the casual listener, but music shouldn't always adapt to you, you should learn something from the music, making you better for the experience. Pearl Jam really started to do this starting with Vitalogy, and continued to expand their killer catalogue because of it. I think it's a shame that most of the world and the music press only knows Pearl Jam for Ten, if only they would listen to this...
Edit: I didn't mean to post this as a reply, but this is the first post I've ever made, so I'm still figuring out the whole thing. Sorry!
The greatest of Pearl Jam.
Immortality, my greatest of Pearl Jam.
Some die just to live.
Powerful album. Great lyrics. Full of classic songs. The masterpiece.
I agree with JC there are so many gems on this album, I am amazed it is not more talked about - perhaps its because it follows Ten and Vs. Of all the fantastic songs on this album, what makes it for me is Corduroy, a stunning rock song from start to finish, and its amazing what they do with it live in concert.
Would love to know who else rates Corduroy as one of PJ's all time best? For me it is right up there although I always have difficulty setting on my number one PJ song of all time...
Probably my all time favourite. I can remember standing at the local record store before it was open to buy it. Spin the Black Circle blew me away. If I were a staff member rating the 100 all time greatest records at Rolling Stone this is a top 10. I still listen to it all the time and it never grows old. A sign of a classic record in my opinion. I wonder if the boys sit back and realize what an epic record they made. Thanks again PJ.
Mi disco favorito de Pearl Jam.
A M A Z I N G
Was lucky enough to attend a pre-launch party for this album, organised by a Sony rep for my local independent record shop. I loved the album on the first listen, gauging everybody elses first reactions to the new material. I can still remember the immediate impact the opening riff to Corduroy had on me..what a song. Only the first listen to Given to Fly has hit me in such a way since.
Loved the album then, and even though I don't listen to it as much now I still think it is the must-have album of their career.
Pearl Jam at their most creative, rockin', cutting edge, back against the wall barnstormer! What a RIPPER!
'Grasp and hold on, hold tight and fast..." indeed!
Such a marvelous album. It's so raw, mysterious, and yet it seems like it was the first drawn breath of what Pearl Jam was out to do. I still isten to this on a regular basis. Nothingman is so beautifully haunting, inspiring, and uplifting!
my favorite PJ studio album. I love the prodution, the nergy of the songs. The cover, the layout. Everything.
Tremor Christ is one of my fav songs
One of my ALL time FAVE PJ albums...I bought it the day it came out...Sill lisen to it ALL the time..ABSOLUTLEY LOVE IT!!
I remember the morning this came out and I got my Mum to drive me to get it! It was a sonic awakening! Still my favourite!
GREATEST. ALBUM. EVER.
